nice

I would prefer the 4.0l V8 for the money, but they are more of a risk if you don't know what you are looking for (and about 1G more)

Test drive an XJ though preferrably an x308
the cabin is a nice place to be

Nice - always liked the XJ and the X300 series seem to be wearing well.

Ian, if you really want to go super-big like that S500, then budget a bit (actually a lot) more for the stuff that goes wrong - a common failure on the S-calss is the pump for the auto-closing doors, makes then very heavy to shut manually, and will set you back over a grand to fix. Electrical gremlins are one thing, doors you can't close are another.

Also...
Merc and BMW have a halo surrounding them which means you'll pay more and get less at the lower end of the market - plus, both are common marques for a bit of 'Council House Bling' - with the added problem that you can end up picking up something that's had little or no work done on it for a couple of years.

There's a reason Gad bought a Vauxhall and I bought a Saab when we went bargain shopping, sensible people bought them new, and no-one wants a 10 year old example of either, which means they diodn't fall into the hands of people who couldn't afford to keep them, and in the case of the Saab, it's had main dealer servicing all the way to 108k miles.

Wow those Legends are cheap. I'd forgotten about them.

I'd rather walk than be seen in a Jag but the Legend is a different kettle of fish.

3.5 V6......anyone got any ideas how bad they are on fuel ?
