I used to have one of these - except mine was the import MRS version.
Great little car. The engine was quite revvy and you had to push it to get the most out of it but it really was like a go-kart. Great handling and great brakes.

As per above though, get the facelifted one with the front fog-lights and a leather interior.

Be warned, there is literally no luggage space. She'll be able to fit a handbag type bag in two little cubby holes behind the seats and there is another small storage bit under the bonnet, but that's it.

I never had any probs with mine though.

Good luck finding a low mileage one!

No luggage space is exactly why I bought my missus one. She couldn't even fit a shoe box in the cubby holes. Mind you with online shopping now you don't need luggage space.

They can all suffer from pre-cat failure regardless of age. The cure is simple, remove the innards of the pre-cat. 2 hours work with a pointy metal rod and vacuum cleaner and Bobs your fathers brother.

You suited that car down to the ground Martin

My view on the Mk3 Mr2 - handle well, reliable but under powered.

Cheers

Compared to what? And why would anyone want a more powerful girly car? Which is what they are, despite being nice enough to drive.

Cheeky git Ollie. That's another beer you owe me. Yes the pre cats can fail but only on the pre facelift up to 02 cars.they are more than powerful enough in the wet but I agree, the 190hp version of the 1.8 would have made the car a different beast.

Not too bad in snow due to the mid engine as well.

138hp in something that weighs about as much as fag paper is quite sufficient for most of us. We have had 2, both facelift, and when I drove them I was always aware of my feminist side
Of course it is faaaar too underpowered for the driving gods among us.
