New Corsa has same performance figures as S2K

Was my thread remotely about an M5 or an Elise for that matter? Your M5 has the same power to weight ratio as my Elise mate, so if I'm going to be blown away so will you. Except it won't and in a straight fight with your 4 door saloon, as soon as a corner came up I'd be waving you goodbye if only you could see that far ahead. My car also has a 150mph top speed (5mph short of yours), so I'm not sure how that means a hot hatch will eat it for breakfast.
Rather defensive these days though, aren't we? I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring your M5 into the equation, as I hadn't mentioned them at all. Are they actually a bit closer in performance terms than you're making out? Why bring it up?

your posts have become truly puerile since you sold your S
you seem to feel the need to justify your purchase and provoke S owners in equal measures
not so long ago you stated that you would leave this forum as you left the last, but tht hasn't happened
if your posts continue in their present vein, people will be pleased to see you go, which will be a shame
now, turning to the case in point
you raised (as you have continued to do recently) the issue of the pace of recent hot hatchbacks and their statistical proximity to the S
My M5 enters the equation because if your assumptions are true, then hot hatchbacks will soon will be snapping at my heels........
I find that prospect laughable, not least because as stated, the current crop of super hatches like the Focus ST and Astra VXR are EASY meat for me
Your Elise, with similar performance figures to those cars, would be a similar snack
You might stand a chance to 60, after which you would get badly burned, not least because my car slips quite easily through the limiter to around 175 mph
You might also want to check just how long it will take an Elise to hit its top speed
As I have stated on a million threads before, I'm happy to leave the corners to the drifters and power sliders as its simply not my car's territory
That's where you need to keep the Elise, or you will find that any number of cars will give it a good run for its money, and many will hammer it
But enough of this dick swinging
It's horses for courses as they say
If you ever get to drive an M5, you will find that there is no need for me to be defensive
Arrogant would be a much better word
What worries me is a fear that you are going to very unhappy with your purchase - if you are not already suffering some buyer's remorse
You have not bought a supercar, only a car with similar performance to the hot hatchbacks you keep telling us you want to be able to put in their place
It's not that the Elise isn't a nice little car
It is
It's just that's it's a long way from being the monster you want it to be

If you need to quote Evo, we know your straw-clutching!
Clios are bought by parents for girls.
I don't care if you stick a Saturn Farking V in its arse so it'll whip your UPVC window on wheels, it's still gonna be a Clitoris and still a POS.
Period. (snark snark fnarr fnarr)

Faster or not, which car would you rather be in...? and which will be the most fun?
Stats are pointless and throwing more power at a car just because something else is quicker is a mistake IMO. It's all about balance. The MX5 was a perfectly balanced car, it's not fast at all but it's so much fun to drive it's untrue. It doesn't need any more power. Same goes for the Elise. There's a happy power level on them. Sure you can throw more power at them to make them faster but that doesn't necessarily make them better, quite often it's ends up doing the opposite.

According to Evo, a Clio 182 would lose a new M5, so I don't think an 860kg Elise is going to have much trouble losing an 1800kg M5 on a twisty lane!
in a car park full of Clios?
or the Nurburgring?
anyway, according to Autocar, the new M5 thrashes the F430
nah na na na nah!
please, if we are to continue a meaningful discussion, do not use EVO as evidence of anything
and I won't quote Autocar

But I agree a Clio and a Corsa are a piece of shit, which makes the fact that one could keep up with an S2000 even more embarrassing!

That was tongue in cheek, mentioning them!

they will be keeping up with your one year old Lotus
which is more embarrasing?
I'd think about cancelling the cheque if I were you.......
Life is not a game of Top Trumps! Just enjoy your car for what you bought it for (assuming you didn't just buy it to race chavs, as that would be a bit sad
) and stop worrying about what other people have

Have to say from reading and looking at your website BB - you seem to be a bit of a chav yourself - and your remarks on this site are trying to entice other S2K owners to snap at your heels. I personally think if you dont own the S2K any more and have nothing of any interest to write then you would be better off not commenting. Have fun with the Elise, i did for 6 months of so, great little car for the little money they cost but in my opinion not the same all round fun of the S2K hence why I bought one.
I'd just like to point out that the 1958 equivalent of Gad's M5, the Borgward Isabella TS had 75 smokin'bhp.
It was a Porsche beater in its day.
Welcome to progress.
Isabellen & 356s are still very collectable, because they were good cars.
If you get upset about these things, you'll make yerself ill.
