Perhaps the feel from the OP is he wants something a bit more anonymous or unique.
Golf then - certainly anonymous.
Controversial cars become popular though

And more in demand than a ropey old Jag

I must admit I cannot comprehend why anyone would want a Golf but then are also people who buy new build estate houses, think Tag make good watches and that Ikea make great furniture and believe a Pandora bracelet is classy.

Each to their own. If the op wants anonymous he will get it with a Golf. Hopefully he doesn't fit the rest of the profile. He doesn't sound like a peasant.

True dat..
Peasants buy 12 year old waft sheds and pretend they're worth more down the pub.

Rumbled again.

I drive all these old cars because I can't afford to lease a Golf or buy a new Audi.

They're all uninsured, I'm unemployed, live in social housing and buy my clothes from charity shops.

I aspire to white goods motoring but time is running out for me.

Alex, TVR's are manly cars from everything I've read. Everything about the way they drive is heavy duty. Try one, you'll either love it or hate it IMO.

Nah, the later cars are just like S2000s. Only with engines in them. It's the only fast car (even faster than a chipped VAG-box, believe it or not) I've driven, though.

Only it's not RWS, it's a slight flex in the chassis in fast bends, which can be offputting. But best let it wiggle around a bit and carry on.

The organ-style pedals are very good and well-weighted. I really liked that Tuscan S I last drove and admit it was only the frangibility that put me off.

I hope the new Coyote-powered one will be more production-engineered than kit.

NSX is the next step from an S2000
In very many respects, the Cayster is a poor man's NSX; you have to suffer steel & McP struts and it somehow loses that alive magic, but it's a pretty good replica. Bit like the 86 is a good replica of the 944S!

The cayster looks like a dog taking a dump though

On the contrary, you know I'm messing. Buying old crockery is brave, and represents at times the best time to enjoy a marque. Good buy on the STR, I remember seeing one in the flesh brand new 2004. It made my s2000 look rather weedy, and wieldy.
They should come with a packet of Castellas and Zippy.

Bit harsh, I thought the initial dog shitting stance was famously awarded to the Chrysler Crossfire?!

The Cayman is deliberately made to look awkward, in order to make the 911 seem less so.

What about the Panamericana*, then? Looks like it's an Irish Wolfhound trying to shit a bone sideways.

*due to Porsche's customary letter double-spacing, they seem to be forced to misspell it on the cars, despite their unnecessary width.

I like the Cayman in the right colour, the latest one is very nice

That big thing is a proper double bagger like the original cayenne. They arent exactly stylists are they? A bit like the japs in that way

It was, by Clarkson I think.

I think Caymans look good but they're definitely colour sensitive, like a lot of cars.
