The Next Logical Step?
Not only powerful enough but they are very slippy aerodynamics wise. My 420 bhp+ Evo IX could not keep up with my mates 370 bhp 997 at any speed, especially over 60. I went out as a passenger in it and the torque surge is a lot more than you think for an NA motor!
Some say the turbo takes the enjoyment out of the way 911's drive.

Bit fragile though :
I would still consider the Cayman a relatively rare car, not huge numbers sold. I see less on the road than I do S2000's, but then I guess it just depends on the area you live and commute / work that will determine an apparent rarity due to see other specific car types.
Boxters are far more prolific than Caymans.
I would suggest a warranty with a Porka just as a safety net, or put money aside. Had a few minor bits done under warranty on the first one, but nothing serious and not had any issues with the engines either. Admittedly the first one only did approximately 37000 miles in 7 and half years
Anyway I am biased in that choice

The S is irreplaceable IMHO.
I've driven loads of things, many mentioned in this list.
Not one of them can offer what an S2000 does.
For me, it has the right blend of everything. You might call it a jack of all trades, but that just proves how useable it is!
I don't think I'd ever spend today's equivalent of £20k on a car. Well never say never, but I just can't see how spending that type of wedge is going to get you more of a thrill than something costing <£10k. I don't class super nutter cars in this, nor cars bought as investments BTW.

If you want a Z4M coupe, buy one now. Prices are steadily going up, which i find incredible for a used car.
I've had mine for 3 years and do really like it. However, i'm getting itchy feet but I don't know what to get after the Z4M.....and what's making it worse is its value keeps going up.
At the moment they are selling for not far off what i paid for it 3 years ago and i've put 30k miles on it in my ownership.

assuming you have deep pockets. in terms of cost of ownership i doubt they'd be close.
I say that because having owned my S since 2002 i've replaced a wheel bearing, other than that it's been service, consumables (discs and pads) and nowt else
it's cheaper to run than our Golf GTD bar the fuel

You can buy a Boxster S for well under £10K and it is a better car than the S2000 in every respect. Some might say it should be, I only state it because I own both and it's a fact. Whether it was a fair comparison when the cars were new is moot, £9K S versus £9K Boxster is a walkover for the Porsche.
