I would suggest that you don't be too argumentative. If they think you're not entering into the spirit of the course or undermining their teaching they'll threaten to ask you to leave .

However, on the course i went on healthy debate was encouraged as long as you appeared to tow the line at the end. I found the course pretty constructive over all.
who me?

Make sure you show due deference and make your contrition public. Acknowledge your fault. Speed kills

IIRC your course attendance cannot save you from the points if you get caught speeding again within 12 months. Also, if you are nicked within 3 years of taking the course you will not be offered a course but get the points.

I am on the look out for one of those self-flagellation devices priests and such use...

As I said earlier in the thread, points are an occupational hazard

I have a clean licence so I'm not exactly bothered about being thrown off a course and collecting three points (as if)

Not least as my insurer takes course attendance into account anyway

Or why would they ask?

I am looking forward to it on the basis that I am genuinely interested to hear their arguments beyond 'speed kills'

Yes on that basis the course was interesting especially the self tests of 'reading the road'. Personally I am a fan of 20mph limit zones around schools. The courses tend to be outsourced to some real experts and not given by mindless individuals. But they know who pays the piper

On what basis?

The overlords are all up in arms ATM that the few available results of such zones (an increase in accidents!) do not coincide with the received wisdom/religious belief that they ought to reduce them.

One can only presume at this stage that the perception of increased safety makes people act more carelessly, as there is little scientific evidence ATM.

Anyway, I'll be interested to read Gad's report on the course.

Purely emotional. Ever seen film of broken bones in child at 20mph v dead child at 30mph?
I have (had) a niece who was in an Intensive Care Unit for 3 days until they turned off the life support

Where does this stop?

5mph around schools?

No cars?

No kids?

No schools?

No cars, kids or schools?

That last one should work.

Where's the evidence that kids are being killed in 30mph crashes around schools and where's the evidence that a 20mph limit would improve the situation?

Your speed awareness course will provide some answers to some of those questions.

Whether you believe them or not is another matter.

My speed awareness course has changed my driving behaviour somewhat. That being said getting caught 3 times in 4 months changed it more.

I tell you what, i am a more dangerous driver now with 6 pts as i constantly check my speed. I mean constantly.

The obsession with the number means less attention to the road.

But my insurers dont care. This year.

I'm always open to persuasion

But if someone wants to impose, support and enforce a 20mph (or any) limit I want more evidence to support it than a spreadsheet showing bone fracture to speed ratios

I'm not optimistic I shall get what I need but we'll see
