Nicked for speeding last week
Some dozy bint was complaining to the group about her benefits being cut and not being able to claim the cost of the course back. Most of the group were in agreement that those on benifits shouldn't be able to afford a car in the first place. She pretty much STFU after that!

Another good reason to avoid the course.
i cant see a reason for taking the course if they can still hold the points in lieu?
the only reason to take it is to not get the points, it's 1.5x more expensive than FP ignoring my lost earnings, a lot worse than that for me losing 0.5 days work min.
i may as well hold onto the option of the course for the 2nd hit (god forbid) as then i'd only get the pts if i get stung again (3rd hit). i found a mobile camera spot list here , i'll just use alternate routes. i dodged the Upton one recently but i did think he'd got me there too, must've been asleep

ffs Notts should just pay the £60
he earns a decent wedge by the sound of it - why on earth would he worry about his insurance premium going up by a couple of hundred quid a year IF he gets caught again
pay and laugh it off - I had to explain how insignificant the whole process was to the last copper who stopped me (I have 3pts)
I don't know how they write out the tickets and keep a straight face
it's legalised robbery but fortunately not at a level that should have any serious financial effect on any typical worker

Unless you get caught four times within the three years, at which point it becomes entirely more inconvenient. It's not about protecting an insurance premium, it's about keeping the points off the license.
We should really do away with the points thing and just crack on with fines and or bans - much like everywhere else.

I don't consider it a significant risk for a typical driver
I did once get to 9 pts in three years and modified my driving accordingly
I consider a couple of convictions in a typical rolling three year period to be acceptable for a typical driving enthusiast who has to venture outside of their normal area from time to time
Even if you don't keep the points of the licence, the effect on premiums is insignificant for a mature driver with a good job and once you get the ban all points are reset to zero
We live in an age where £100 a week on fuel isn't unusual so an extra £500 or so is nothing in the overall scheme of things
I had a NIP come through yesterday. 35 in a 30.
I saw the van at the time and thought i'd got away with it as it's taken around 4 weeks to come through. But i was driving my wife's company car at the time so they have extra time to get the NIP to me.
I've also got a nasty feeling that i got caught in wales at the weekend. Possibly doing around 80 in a 70. Again in my wife's company car so i won't know for a while.
On that basis, i'll probably take the speed awareness course for first offence if its offered. The first one was in Northamptonshire so if i'm going to do the course to avoid going to 6 points i'd rather take it closer to home than travel back to wales.

All I meant was the money he could lose on his insurance could be more than that day's wages so trying to save money first might end up costing him more.
It's quite telling that speeding fines are now essentially a road hazard rather than a deterrent.
Some people tell me I've been lucky not to get more points, but like most people on here, it's not luck, it's paying attention to the road and conditions, looking further than your own bonnet and possibly some technological assistance.
I bet that most points accumulated by people on this forum are from movable traps, rather than static speed cameras.

Inappropriate speed kills.
More importantly, inappropriate speed usually comes from reckless driving or lack of care and attention. Yet i suspect that reckless driving or lack of care and attention convictions are a fraction of the number of speeding convictions that are imposed each year.
A good proportion of the country will break the speed limit every time they drive a car to a greater or lesser degree. Yet we have the safest roads in Europe. Unfortunately we don't have and haven't had a government with the guts to take on the health and safety Taliban that are desperately trying to convince the world that if we drove everywhere at 10mph every person ever killed in a road incident would be reincarnated in perfect health.
This is not an admission of guilt
but how long does it take for a letter to arrive in the post if "one" got caught speeding by a camera van. I know it has to be within 14 days from the date the offense was committed. I'm sure my wife had it by the Tuesday when caught on the Sun.
