Where has this new aggression from one section of road users come from?

I've not seen it personally, but I've seen enough Youtube videos to know that there are some right pricks out there on cycles.
I've also witnessed, first hand, some horrendous acts of stupidity/aggression from car drivers towards cyclists. I'm not talking London either, this is in rural Hampshire.
Everybody needs to chill out and start behaving in a courteous manner to other road users.
I don't know if it's headcams or the fact that more people are cycling so there will inevitably be more nutters on two wheels, but something seems to have changed.

Honestly I don't know the answer to this.
I do know that the number of cyclists has rocketed on our roads over the last 5 years or so. It may be that percentage wise nothing has changed, that 3%, or whatever the figure is, of aggressive cyclists has remained constant, but due to the higher number of cyclists this is now more visibile ???
Social media has a lot to account for too. Previously unnoticed events now get plastered all over the net.
I don't wear a camera, but have considered one for the reasons I mentioned earlier; for those instances where dangerous car driving has potentially put lives at risk. I wouldn't plaster these all over the net though, it'd be a matter purely for the police.
It is fairly antisocial to ride 2 abreast, especially on busier sections of road, however it is sometimes more practical for the car driver to get past when passing larger groups of cyclists. It is a lot quicker to pass a line of 5 bikes 2 abreast than it is to pass 1 line of 10 bikes single file.
Anyway there is a road biking thread in the off topic section if anybody is interested in discussing this further.
Back on topic !
It's partly an old phenomenon; being put constantly in danger by mong drivers raises stress levels & too much adrenaline & oxygen turns cyclists into panicked airheads. And there are more utter tards with driving licences. I try to avoid busy roads completely when cycling.
Also, there seem to be fewer real cyclists these days - like the old dear I saw the other day with a shopping basket on the front & a fag in her mouth. They remember the war & are mostly nice. These lycra-clad Armstrong wannabee sports twats with all the gear & NFI seem to treat it like it's serious, or something...and with that poseurdom comes road warriordom.
It's probably to do as well with the encroaching STASI-dom in society; divide to conquer and turn each interest group against the next. I believe the entire place is becoming more aggressive/intolerant.

Bradley Wiggins' little incident happened only a mile from my house. I mean - to go out training at 6pm on Crow Orchard Road is careless by any means. It's too busy!
In fact, it's a lesson to other riders not to meddle with congestion/busy times. Every man and his dog is trying to get home, not veer around matchstick men on carbon-fibre bikes. The roads are full of carelessness which proved to be so with him being knocked-off his bike.

completely. Not forgetting that many of these tards with driving licenses also ride bicycles. It'd be interesting to see if there is a correlation between Audi and carbon bike ownership
Cyclists now getting road rage with other cyclists:
