Nicked for speeding last week
All my points have been from static cameras : human nature to perhaps have thoughts elsewhere and not notice that you're doing 37 in a 30 limit, for example. Have you never driven what seems a couple of miles and not remembered it? We're human, we break the limit, if unlucky, you get caught. So, human fallibility does come into it. I myself did a driving awareness course when it was offered and found it sobering and informative (and very, very, strict. One guy was 5 minutes late back from our break and he was sent away immediately).
This is not an admission of guilt
but how long does it take for a letter to arrive in the post if "one" got caught speeding by a camera van. I know it has to be within 14 days from the date the offense was committed. I'm sure my wife had it by the Tuesday when caught on the Sun.

It's quite telling that speeding fines are now essentially a road hazard rather than a deterrent.
Some people tell me I've been lucky not to get more points, but like most people on here, it's not luck, it's paying attention to the road and conditions, looking further than your own bonnet and possibly some technological assistance.
I bet that most points accumulated by people on this forum are from movable traps, rather than static speed cameras.

Inappropriate speed kills.
More importantly, inappropriate speed usually comes from reckless driving or lack of care and attention. Yet i suspect that reckless driving or lack of care and attention convictions are a fraction of the number of speeding convictions that are imposed each year.
A good proportion of the country will break the speed limit every time they drive a car to a greater or lesser degree. Yet we have the safest roads in Europe. Unfortunately we don't have and haven't had a government with the guts to take on the health and safety Taliban that are desperately trying to convince the world that if we drove everywhere at 10mph every person ever killed in a road incident would be reincarnated in perfect health.
I couldn't agree more ....

The elephant in the room is that speed doesn't actually kill.

However, what's difficult to argue against is that speed is a multiplier in any incident. Yes, bad driving causes accidents but add excessive speed and it makes things more dangerous. The A9, with its inherently dangerous stretches of single lane then dual then single etc., is being considered for average speed cameras over its entire length. Cheaper than making it all dual carriageway, this will make it a very tedious and even more frustrating journey.
I forgot to post my admission of guilt. This took from my crime on thurs to following Tuesday.
I'm stumping the FP
It's my 3rd fine in 24 years driving. 1 fixed cam and 2 mobile.
I recall the first, it was raining on a downhill bend and I got pulled. I was about 20. The only satisfaction I got was making the copper stand in the rain while he wrote ticket.
"Can I sit in your car?"
"While you write me a ticket? Can you f@#k!"
They should have a consumer sat score for the police. My experience is.. Roughly 0/10.

I feel your pain Nottm_S2!
I too was caught by a mobile camera on the Nottingham ring road earlier in the summer (outside Queens Medical Centre southbound) on a Sunday evening and no traffic.
Having had a clean license for many years, I now have 3 points and am £60 worse off - I wasn't given the option of the course as I was just above their threshold by a couple of mph.
The annoying thing is, I am very familiar with that stretch of road and the usual camera van site - and they were definitely not in their usual, very obvious position. I think they are resorting to tactics where they conceal their position now to enable them to coin in more revenue.
As you will know Nottingham in not exactly car friendly these days - the latest anti motorist jape is to close off one of thre main arterial roads into the city for 3 months so that the new tram lines (a 'benefit' which I have yet to find anyone who wants) can be laid. Luckily, I am not too affected by this but there will be thousands whose commute is made far more miserable than usual over the next 3 months as a result. Oh, the power of these people!

My mum got caught on a camera recently on a local camera at the top of a hill.
Frankly, I'm amazed the car could do more than 30 up that hill. It's an old Hyundai with a one litre engine. (Automatic)
She took the speed awareness course simply because she wanted to keep the clean licence she's had since she passed her test. I can understand that.
She only works part time so it was no inconvenience to her, but I know she was very bored through it.
