Quick spin in a 996

I drove a car and gave my opinion on the experience. Thought that's what this section was all about. At least I said something remotely constructive. Well done for being arrogant and full of it.

It wasn't constructive. It sounds like a comment from someone who knows little about cars.

I thought it was quite interesting, even if I don't agree with everything that was said.
It was his opinion and experience of the drive he had.
The first time I pulled up in the 996 I was also a bit shocked but I put it down to lots of variables such as general pedal stroke and disc/pad material etc how they are assisted. Also they were new pads so I mainly put it down to that as well as me being unfamiliar.
The pads that I use on the S are quite linear (which I specifically like and chose them for this reason as it means my shoddy heelNtoe is less likley to accidentally modulate the brake when I twist my foot onto the throttle; Ferodo 2500) By comparison the brakes on the loan Civic that I usually get from Honda are very different and give a huge initial bite with the slightest press of the pedal; Clearly this is heavily assisted with it being a shopping cart but I suspect the pads do have a stronger initial bite as do OEM pads for the S (or at least mine did). But if I press hard on my brakes in the S I know I could stop shorter (EDIT) than the shopping cart (END-EDIT
) but only once I had temperature in the system.
For the above reasons I'm not convinced by a simple 'This car will pull up quicker than this car' scenario as there are lots of factors involved here, the main one being how the brakes are designed to perform, at what temperature etc etc

In what context? One big stop or a series of stops?
Still, for the price of a pair of front Porsche discs I could buy a stoptech big brake kit no problems!

Well we'll start with shortest braking distance - I know 100% that my S would stop faster than a 911 - the only mod to the braking system being the MC brace which makes a massive difference I must be honest.

I reckon the Porsche would win because it has bigger tyres = more grip ultimately.
Although with your R888s it might be a different story, but in the wet on the other had...

Ron, that's not entirely true is it - you have non-OEM discs and pads.

Jamie will need to have a truck up his arse

Seriously though,
he probably has the upgrade 'S' brakes;
whereas the vanilla Carrera would have the bog standard ones?

What's the surface, dry or wet?
Bumpy B-road where your front end squirms around under braking (because the suspension is too hard)? Or a smooth bit of tarmac?
What are the speedsinvolved? 60-0, 120-60, 30-0?
Is it a one-stopper or many stops?
