That's a pretty sweeping statement.

You can say the same of some of the peasants who go there and drive with what seems to be the aim of playing banger racing. But there are plenty of sensible both types.

Sadly on a track that big you can't legislate for tossers on tourist days, rich or poor.

IMO track days there are the only way to go.

I agree with all of that, but not with this:

Ramping up the price would certainly stop me going because i'd see it as a colossal waste of money.

As others have said, there are plenty of tracks around here, and plenty of other tracks in Europe (Spa is a track I am desperate to visit).

Yes, the ring closing would be a shame, but, imho, the image it currently holds of being somesort of King phallic comparison of the motoring world is massively detracting from the enjoyment it should offer to a driving enthusiast.

you may be right - it could well be that a simple enforcement of the rules would do the job

I certainly agree that there are some wealthy people who behave as badly as poor people - footballers seem to the best example - bankers a close second

I love forums and the fact that so much mis-communication and aggro can take place amongst people who supposedly have similar interests, even if they no longer own the object of the forum's existence and hang around like a bad smell.
Of course, current owners aren't at all immune to spouting utter bullshit are they?

Before you start accusing many long standing ex-owners who have and continue to contribute much to this site and community, I suggest you take a look at yourself.

Ah just noticed UN was talking about the owners rather the people who frequent the track.

I've been every year for the past five years. It's usually packed full of people over the summer, it's hard to imagine how it could lose money.

It's not a deadly a place if you've the right attitude. If you think you're the next Shumacher and you're out driving at 10/10ths then yea maybe.

I love tangents that spawn even more mis-communicaton and aggro.

I love the 'everyone is entitles to their own opinion as long as it is the same as mine' attitude that always pops up on forums.

I love the flaming that I know I am going to get for posting this.

It reinforces my faith in mankind's ability to totaly muff up anything that it gets involved in.

Regardless of your opinion of the Ring, the people who go there and enjoy the experience, the benefits of a local British track over one of them there foreign ones, or whatever, the fact remains that it is a historically important site that should be preserved and protected with as much zeal as a Guild Hall, Church, Castle, Forest, or whatever.
They also invented a word for that, too: Kulturgut.

The Germans treat classic cars etc as being important as castles, forests etc.

Thus the 'Ring is far safer than it would be in car- and speed- and elite-hating Britain.

We see them come.

We see them go.

At least they won't be cluttering up the Nordschleife.

Been for the last few years, done a fair few laps in different cars.

I know the risks, so do/did my friends and we all love it.

The end.

For the record, I'm not keen on the ring stickers purchased from the 'bay and placed on cars that have never even been across the channel, but if someone has arranged a road trip, with mates and had a great laugh blasting off the schackles of modern driving oppression, let em have it.

I certainly wouldn't describe it as 'sad' or any of the other derogatory words used on here.

its a fantastic track and to not go because some cock cant tell the boundary between skill and lack of fear seems daft, lots of people get run over crossing the road, don't tell me you just keep to your side of the street, if you like driving there is no place like it, just go and watch if you cant trust yourself to go round at 8/10ths imagine a small village where every bar and hotel is filled with people of a like mind, yes there are and always will be cocks but i can find them in any town in UK and it doesn't stop me going out for a drink i just chose not to drink with them so why should it stop me going to the ring

in its present form i cant see it lasting, i don't think it will disappear but the drive up and ride will eventually stop, some cock end will do something stupid and try to sue as they were not informed it was dangerous and hitting reset doesn't make the pain go away.

1. Absolutely true. A motoring leviathan. Drive it at 25% of pace and I'd enjoy it.

2. Couldn't agree more and have said this before on here. People aren't allowed to have fun and then die.
