If the car WAS properly repaired, it should be almost impossible to tell.

Doesn't make you an idiot.

Andy, say they do repair it - you clearly get a good repair but is it then recorded as Cat D or anything?
If they write it off it is a CAT D, if they pay out / repair it's not.

Got you.

SO a Cat D you would get the value of the car, plus you could buy it back from them and repair it? Or do you just keep it anyway?

Apologies, never really thought about this before.

Time for an update I guess.

To cut a long story short, my insurers Swift cover have been useless - never updated me, never even called me once I dont think - literally pathetic.

The bodyshop who have had the car since the bang have actually been pretty good and called me twice a week with an update, even if there wasnt one, they still made the effort to call. So apparently its due to be completed on the 7th or 9th of March I forget which.

Bit gutted it wasnt written off, however as long as they do a good job then things should be ok - I wont sign it off until Ive been over every panel gap, fitment, button etc and driven it well. I have to say Im pretty confident it should drive straight, as it still drove straight a few yards down the road after shed bashed me!

Got some new front wheels coming so it should be spotless once done.

Well then

Went down to see it today...........its been totally stripped down and is waiting for a number of parts - most of the back end is off, windows out at the back etc.

I spoke to the owner of the body shop who is an ex BMW employee - very knowledgeable and helpful - he pointed out all sorts of things on the car and he's even agreed to sort out a few minor paint errors that were on the car pre accident bonus

Could still be a month till I get it back -would prefer april so I dont have to blow a full months tax on a weeks driving -either way much happier and confident its in the right place

Fingers crossed Andy

All the signs are good

Just take your time before accepting it

The car will be presented looking lovely and you will be relieved to get it back

It's easy to be seduced.......

Take a miserable sod like me along when you collect it - briefed to find fault
