Smokers
Strange one, Had a person interested in my car. All seemed good till he asked if I was a smoker. I answered yes, although I dont smoke in the car, but it seemed to put him off. Would you non-smokers buy a car from a smoker, or does it really put people off??
It just seemed a strange question to ask when buying a car, didnt think it mattered that much, nopthing a bit of febreeze cant fix.

I wouldn't buy a car from someone who smoked inside the car. My sister bought a car from a smoker and I don't think she ever got rid of the smell of smoke, no matter what she tried. If the owner didn't smoke inside the car and it smelt smoke free, it wouldn't stop me.
I smoked for 10 years (gave up long ago) but I would never buy a car that had been smoked in, you would never get rid of the smell completely unless you ripped out and replaced the seats and carpets, maybe not even then.

I guess part of it is trust..
would I trust that a self admitted smoker.. never actually smoked in the car.. ?
the problem with any amount of smoke..is that it will be in every nook and cranny of the car.. so to really deal with it.. you need to take the interior apart.
there are some new technologies that can "capture" smells.. but not really suitable for car environment.

the nose knows! I would let my eyes and nose tell me and not ask the owner, (chances are they'll light up at some point in the discussion anyway) The S does have more non and semi porus surfaces than many other cars (leather, roof lining etc) so all is not lost smokers!
Incidentally, you probably already know this but if you smoke, a non smoker can smell this on you (clothes and breath). No offence of course but something to bear in mind if you feel the need before the prospective buyer turns up.
Good luck selling fella.

unless the car was a fair distance away, then I might include it in the shortlist
smokers don't realise how much they reek and so don't appreciate just how offensive the smell is to non-smokers
stale smoke in cars is only approached for nastiness by damp dog smell
