Smokers
Smoker or not IMO as a smoker:
Smoking inside a car/house etc etc shows a lack of respect for your property as it makes it smell/dirty. On this evidence alone I would wonder about the rest of the car....
If it was someone who smoked but not in the car then thats a different matter.............it actually probably shows more than average respect for their own property and therefore the car may even have been looked after better/or atleast to a high standard! ;-)

I am also an ex-smoker, and I would not touch a car that had been smoked in.
Even if it has been febreezed the smell will still be obvious to a non-smoker. Ash also gets everywhere, especially with the roof down. I used to smoke loads on my old company cars, but can't say I really cared about them!

As a general rule, no I wouldn't buy a car which has been smoked in.......but, the most expensive car I have ever bought - my NSX - has been smoked in at some stage in its life
Given the difficulty in finding a good NSX within budget, a lot of the normal rules of secondhand car buying go out of the window - you have to compromise a little or wait an eternity or two for your perfect car to appear on the market.
The NSX hadn't been smoked in for at least 3 years - neither of the previous 2 owners had smoked in the car, so the smell was very faint, but unmistakenly there.
When I had the paintwork re-polished, (details of the company who did this are here clicky )I also had a process called 'Odor-Kill' unleashed on the car interior - this seemed to involve a bloody good shampooing of all fabrics with an enzyme-based product, plus every plastic / leather surface thoughly wiped down.
The interior of the car is now fresh as a daisy

It should be illegal to smoke and drive anyway. The amount of people I see trying to flick the ash out of a 2 inch gap in the window is amazing. They cannot possibly be concentrating on the road. IMHO smoking and driving is the far worse than using a mobile and driving. Then the scroats flick the fag out the window. Youve got an ashtray, FOOKING USE IT!!!!.
Its especially nice when they chuck out a lit butt when I'm behind with my roof down...or worse still, I saw one chucked out of a car window and it promptly lodged in the leathers of a following biker.
Its just plain ignorant
When i was 17 i smoked roll ups, the ash tray on my car had a few old rizla papers in where id pulled a load out and they were stuck together. I lit my roll up with a match and thought it was out and put it in the ash tray. The next minute the whole bloody ashtray was on fire. I soon learnt about the dangers of smoking and driving. I used to roll fags whilst driving with my knees. Crikey when I look back I dont know how I didnt kill someone.
My old triumph herald had opening front quarterlights in the doors. If you opened the quarterlight and drove with your fag in your right hand with your hand on the steering wheel, the slipstream used to suck out all the smoke and it was ideal for flicking the ash out off.
It was brilliant.
Now as an ex smoker, i get really pissed off with people who chuck lit fags out the window. You really notice it at night when you get a flash of embers as the butt bounces off your windscreen.

It was a great demister too!
Except in an early Mini, or a Lloyd/Borgward Arabella (sort of German Herald), where the depression would suck in water spray through the seams in the floor & the mats would go all manky!
Great, that class of '59!

I wouldn't. Smoking indicates a sloppy ill-disciplined person who is willing to treat their health and that of others with no regard. They will treat their car in a similar or worse manner.
I smoke...............does that mean I lack discipline and don't look after my car?
