Speeding! Just as I was getting a laser detector
If it goes to court and you can plead guilty by post then it might be worth considering... they can't ban you if you are not there.
A ban for speeding may (will) have an adverse effect on your insurance, although, given the speed, I don't think that a ban is on the cards unless there were aggravating circumstances...
It is just a case of wait and see...

Off at a complete tangent but you mention in the thread title that you were about to buy a laser detecter....
Have they been made illegal yet? I know that it was certainly indicated a few years back that the legislation was being introduced to make active detectors illegal to own and use, whilst leaving passive GPS-based ones alone. I flogged my Valentine One before the relevant law came into effect.
Anyone know whether the relevant enabling legislation was ever passed? One of our traf pol members, maybe?

... but personally I’d rather have a 1 week ban than 6 points

I got a 7 day ban for over a ton on the M6 in 2004. A period of disqualification is far more costly as it haunts you for 5 years and is reflected in your insurance premiums.
As others have said, accept the FPN if offered.
96mph is the limit for a ticket, 3 points and £60. Over that and it is indeed a court appearance. If you are lucky as you are only 1mph over the ACPO guidelines for a court appearance they may send you a conditional offer of 3 points / £60. If they do and you know you are guilty I would bite their hand off !!
If he was on a bridge how high is the bridge and how far away did they get you - only reason I ask is you have to be a minimum of 10 times the bridge height away when they get you !
I doubt, however, they are going to be wrong - but you never know. The summons should show the distance you were 'captured !

If they want you in court, not attending will not be an option and isn't recomended, they prefer you to turn up and be inconvenienced, that's their way of making you see the error of your ways.
NIP first which you'll no doubt have to sign and return.
What comes next will determine if you go to court or not, just depends who else they caught on the day and where you sit on the averages. I suspect they won't be happy about you leaving a sliproad onto a motorway doing 90+
Guess you might get away with 3 to 6 points and up to £250 fine. Or you might get away with £60 and a slapped wrist and 3 points in the post.

Drove it back from work very gingerly. It's like a wild animal that's been scalded.
It just doesn't want to drive at road legal speeds, or rather it's not enjoyable at road legal speeds as all the energy is at the top end at which point your in serious license breaking territory. Maybe the jdge will go easier if I say i've seen the error of my ways and am swapping the car for something 75% less powerful....
Like an S2000 or Dc5?

This thread couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. Mr CJ is currently waiting to hear about 94 in a 60 in Norfolk. We were overtaking a Peugeot and BMW that were doing varying speeds from 30-50, BMW sped up when he saw us coming but Mr CJ decided to carry on rather than pull in and before we knew it - camera van
Sent the paperwork off last week and we are currently waiting to hear if it's a court appearance. If it is then he is on strict instructions not to make any excuses, just be very very humble and apologetic. HR are prepared to do him a letter as he's a lorry driver by trade so could really do with him not losing his licence!
