Mike told you before get the right detection device fitted in your car and you wont worry as much. I am either very lucky or I just have the right device

Out of interest why are you getting rid of your valentine one? And how much do you want for it?

Curious, Not knowing too much about these devices but...

By the time the device senses a laser etc, surely its too late and you have been caught? Therefore only providing you knowledge that you have been caught instead of worrying about it for 2 weeks?

I thought the advantage of a laser detector wasn't that it detecteed when you were being hi, afterall you'd never react quickly enough, but in that it can "catch" reflected / refracted elements of the laser coming off cars that are ahead of you and are already being targetted.

Hence giving you time to react.

I could be wrong on that though

AFAIK the radar detector picks up the radar before you get into the speed tracker range so you can slow down before you get into their red zone.
I seem to recall that older police radars were always broadcasting pointing at a stretch of road and tracked every car as it passed through.
.. or something like that.

I think that newer police gear doesn’t turn on the radar until the car is in range and some of it uses cameras rather than radar.
This limits the usefulness of the radar detectors.

Still a useful bit of kit I guess, but not foolproof against all the police toys.

edit - I've just reread and noticed you said lazer not radar.
Bugger. Just ignore this post then.
Move along, nothing to see here.-

Any idea how long you should hear back once you've filled in an NIP? It's been two months and not a word. I don't necessarily want to ring up in case it starts a paper trail that ultimately ends up in me getting said information!

But it has been 2 months now - i'm hoping that the fact that there were no speed camera signs, and it was one copper standing on a bridge that there may have been so many complaints that they have dropped all NIP's?

Any advice greatly received

Since you were served an NIP, IIRC it can take up to 6 months - you'll usually hear 5 months and 3 weeks later
