Default ...stand off

Row of parked cars, Volvo in front pulled out and drove around them, oncoming Astra decided to come the oppoiste way at the same time. Head to head....so we wait, and wait and wait. Horns blasting from behind us.. neither budges.

after a few minutes I decide to drive down myself and sort it out, half expecting to run into a couple of 20 somethings who are going to stick a blade in me.... no... both middle age men who probably should no better.

so I point out how childish they are being and could they just pull off the road and stare each other while we are able to drive past. They both decide to try and explain that it was the other who should get out of the way, at which point I tell them I really dont give a f**k and could they take their immaturity elsewhere. Realising how much like complete kn*bs they look they eventually comply and everyone proceeds on their merry way.

What was odd is how many cars behind me just did a u-turn and went back the way they'd come rather than face a confrontation.

welcome to the courteous world of driving in the UK

we had a nice day out though driving the Olympic cycle route around Surrey....trying desperately not to kill the cyclists ridng 3 abreast and swerving out in front of us..

Know what you mean.

My new neighbour is a local hospital paediatric anaesthetist. You would think a caring sympo sort of guy. His dogs left loose have been barking madly at us in the garden this past six month. I go round to chat about it and he asks me to leave. So immature. He comes from a city suburb and thinks in our village he is Mr Big but won't accept that his unschooled dogs cannot just run loose in his half acre of garden. He and his missus earn north of £100k per annum but he can't/won't do anything, his dogs are 'entitled' to run free. I think he has a chip because he is 'only' a Dr not a Mr. There is I think a big difference in the NHS pecking order A bit of a different situation but not really.

12 bore here I come (only half joking)

People avoid confrontation due to the potential 20yr old hoodie scenario i guess.

Americanisation of UK society.

Rog, rowing with neighbours is a pita. Guy next door to me is a massive dickhead. He had a whinge at me for not "letting him know that our drive was being done". I told him it was because he's a cvnt and i dont like talking to him. he's pulled that sort of line about 5 times and i got bored. Same guy proceeded with an extension without planning permission.

The lesson is... Everyones a cock

with Nottm_S2. Everyone's a cock.

People don't seem to care about anyone else anymore it would seem.

I have a dickhead neighbour who thinks it's okay to block my rear gate, because she "didn't think I'd be using it first thing in the morning". Well guess what love, I am. So move your Subaru, and don't do it again.

You just can't tell some people. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Illegal to ride 3 abreast.

The thing about a confrontation is that nothing good will come of it.

If anything at all goes a little pear shaped, the Police will prosecute you and happily inform you that you shouldn't have done anything.

Or someone will attack you with a wheel brace or other heay hard item.

I'm glad all ended well for you, but count yourself lucky.

But yes, everyone is a c0ck.

Much as I support what the Olympics has done for the country a lot of people around here are getting fed up with the massive increase in cyclists around here. We've had the Olympics mens and womens races, tour of Britain passes through in a few weeks.. surely there are other places in the country with a few hills for them to go up.?? Not that I'm unhappy for them to be here, it's just that one of them is bound to get killed soon and of course it won't be their fault, it'll be the car driver who quite obviously must have been driving without due care.

Isn't it about time they started paying a contribution to the road tax too if they are going to use them....of course not, only us car users need to pay to use the roads don't we..

....its been one of those days. will try and get out of bed the right side tomorrow.

As a cyclist, I don't pay road tax because I am under the emissions threshold

Having been knocked off my bike by a car user, you have to keep your wits about you at all times - again, everyone is a c0ck.

But riding three abreast is silly, arrogant, and selfish. Unfortunately, don't expect the vast majority to have the slightest clue what is going on and expect them to ride through all red lights.

Even when the Mrs and I go out on our bikes, we ride single file.

But stay away from the conflict and ring the Police (111) to tell them, that way if anything does happen, at least you have something to back you up.

It's in the highway code - think it's 'rule 66' from a quick google.

It's the FU attitude of the groups that want to ride around like they're on the tour de france that irritate me. It's almost impossible to overtake them safely.
