You are kidding, right?
At the power plant I work at, every other car is a Subaru.
There are several blobeyes, a couple of classics (the best model), ugly in-betweens, Wagons an RB5, a P1, a WR1. God, they are all over the place. And around here you get a wave every five miles.
Not so with the S2K. There is only three, one appeared this week, we own one from this week, and the other guy is not happy about his exclusivity any more
As for comparisons, there are none. Take it from me, the S in experienced hands is more than a match for an Sti in the dry. On the track I would wager the S would outshine it. On a greasy country road its the Impreza all the way.
For sheer build, the Impreza drivedrain is awesome, but the rest is built very much DOWN to a budget, just like the 350Z.
If you can, have both. Two different animals. I would personally buy an EVO 8 out of the two

Yes there are loads of old Scooby's, precious few STi's around here, a few blobeyes but no new shape ones (Yet!). I see more S2000s than I do STi's - S2000's are a regular spot around here - quite common in fact.
I'm not interested in track performance (I have a Caterham) and I don't care whether it's better in the dry; >half the year is wet and it's a year round car. When I want a blat in the dry I take the Caterham.
The interior of the new cars is surprisingly good - on a par with the S - and the Evo is too expensive to run.
All these points covered already and if one more person tells me the S is great on the track I might cry !!!!!

Ben I think you're right - just genuinely wanted to see if there were any objections I hadn't thought of, or alternative cars I hadn't contemplated. I do like the look of the Alpina but it's unfortunately above budget (sensible hat on !)
I think I've decided to give the S a chance; it would be nice to have a convertible for another summer, instead of 3 winters, and I always said I would sell up after 3 years; although this car is only a year old, the previous car was 9 months old when it was written off, so I'm 2 years in really.
However, I have decided that I am going to get a black current(or newer) shape STi PPP when I come to replace the S - I've always wanted a Scoob, and I was let down by the current WRX. The STi ticked all the boxes the WRX failed on, and now I can't even be bothered to test drive others on my list. I just have to get it out of my system I think!
Now would be a bad time to get rid of the S; having just taken the first 12 months depreciation, and comig into winter, not a great time for a private sale, and quite financially bad to sell after the 1st 12 months.
I'm going to see if the dealers can finally fix the squeaking by replacing the right side damper now (they did the left and it got a lot quieter), and then make a final decision.
So thanks for all the tips and thoughts; black STi PPP it is !!!!!
