Rob - you are right to a point, but I want something I like driving etc. etc. But I think you're right that the STi is overkill - the bit I'm struggling with is the massive grin I had when I got out of it and all the way home. Prior to that, the STi was never an option due to price/overkill-ness.

Ok

1) it doesn't fit my week-sized suitcase in it, which is a pita for work trips and holidays (like WRC in a few weeks)
2) i don't like to drive in heels - so what if Sam does - I DON'T and it's me looking for the car
3) cup holders - why is that such an issue! Ok I was slightly tongue in cheek when I said it, but so what!! Little bits of luxury like that are actually quite pleasant !
4) can't put 2 bikes on it
5) can't put 2 cats in it for vet trips

If the Jazz was fun to drive and fitted my criteria it would be an option - but it doesn't. Although it does have cup holders lol.

The S2000 is practical for what it is; a 2 seater convertible. Being practical "for what it is" is not the same as being practical.

I'm glad that you and Sam love yours so much, don't swap shoes, don't need cup holders, and can fit all your luggage in it, but it's not you looking to swap cars.
Porsche Cayenne ?

Whats your number - I'll clear my diary Seriously

To be honest I think a scooby is probably the best option here. Before you narrow your search you have to look at the bigger picture and categorise cars:

You need something that is fast, fun, practical in warranty and around

is an EVO worse than an impreza fuel/running costs wise?

i've been considering an FQ300/320 but obviously the costs are something to think about. have seen an 05 EVO 9 FQ320 with 16,000 miles advertised for

That's my understanding billy but I've not owned them both. With a scooby you can get into mid-low teens if you try but generally you are mid 20s and you can get into the 30s if you really try.

With the Evo the general acceptance is mid teens to early 20s most of the time with high 20s being an achievement and single figures being a real achievement Then there is the fact they need AYC services as well.

Awesomely capable car, regardless of weather. They're actually more fun in the wet TBH. Mine did not rattle, the interior was passable and in the right colour and with smaller apendages, it can look a lot less chavvy.

It is one of those cars you've got to own once (like a caterfield/elise/proper mini) to understand what all the fuss is about. They are a complete drivers machine, everything is where it should be and does what it should. Coupled to this they are practical, the tow absolutely effortlessly, commute comfortably and they don't break.

However...

They are monumentally expensive to run. 25mpg is as good as it gets in the real world and you're likely to get a lot less than that if you play a lot. This equates to around 250-280 mile at best from a tank (

How many cars have we got/want?

And how big is the garage?

BTW. I'd have an Evo over a scoob

Get the Scoob, I was thinking about this today... I think the STI PPP is the perfect choice for you.

I personally wouldn't touch the Mitsi as the running costs are much higher than the Scoob.

Drive it for 2 years, get rid of the itch and move on. It's got to be done!

Don't believe people who say it is an easy boring car to drive. I found it a bit of a handful, which I thought was really cool. It may have been the semi slick tyres, but it was awesome driving flatout 2/3 gear down some local country roads with all the popping, spitting and turbo noise
