while you two moles are being attentive answer me this.. pick the one thing that stands out most as better on your Boxster.

if you say 'its got a lovely clock' be aware you may get

It allows me to wave at fellow Boxster owners and get fcuk all response other than a look of "whats that twat waving at"
Seriously though the one thing I would pick out is its damping characteristics. It does not jump about like the s2000 does over uneven roads. Just means you can go faster more often and not so much hard work.
Speed wise its more useable although not massively faster. (Nothing you dont already know. Bigger engine/more torque)
Its basically all the s2000 is but without the small niggles.

Well spotted...... yep thats me and Mole
I really wish I had not started that thread. I was hoping for some useful feedback but really only got condescending shaking of heads. I gave up trying to justify driving around a roundabout quickly and safetly on two counts. 1) You cant really other than for fun. 2) I guess that most Boxster owners are probably a bit older and more reserved.

Yes the waving from other owners is crap...... 987 drivers are more likely to respond but 986 folk never wave back (for me anyway).

At least you've made me aware now of a nice disused airfield not far from me

Just thought I'd add to this as I has a test drive of a 986 (that's the old one, right) Boxster S today.

All I can say is, I really didn't like it for several reasons:

The balance of the controls felt all wrong. The pedals required a lot of effort to push, and making changing gear a bind, whilst the steering was extremely light. A weird sensation.

The steering wheel feels like it's been sourced from a routemaster, it is enormous which removes some of that sports car feel. It is also too high up for my liking, I felt like I was having to peer over it.

I had difficulty reading the speedo, what with it's 25mph calibrations (am I going 80 here, or 95? Tough to tell.) To be fair, it does have a small digital readout which the salesman pointed out to me. Still, given the proliferation of speed cameras, I like to know how fast I'm going.

The seats provided me with little support and I found myslef sliding around quite a bit, but then I guess I'm not a fat german so they weren't really designed for me!

People wouldn't move over for me on Dual Carriageways, part of Porsche ownership I guess.

There were a couple of good things. 1) The engine provides a lot of shove from about 3krpm upwards, and it really is good in a straight line. However, the sound of it reminds me of a Beetle, nothing like the beautiful zing of the S2000. 2) The two receptionists in Hatfield Porsche were yummy!

Just to qualify all this, I only had a short drive and some of these things wouldn't matter in long term ownership as one got used to them, but all in all, I do prefer my Honda.

I tested the old 2.7 and 3.2S and have to agree with most of what you say...... I also didn't think much of either car to be honest...... the new (987) version is much better......
The balance of the controls felt all wrong. The pedals required a lot of effort to push, and making changing gear a bind, whilst the steering was extremely light. A weird sensation.
The steering on the old car felt heavy to me..... maybe the tyre pressures were too high? The pedals in the 987 are firm but perfectly set up for heel toe shifts.
The steering wheel feels like it's been sourced from a routemaster, it is enormous which removes some of that sports car feel. It is also too high up for my liking, I felt like I was having to peer over it.
Yep agree..... even the new cars wheel is a bit big but its fully adjustable now.

The digital speedo is much bigger now..... I never look at the analogue one

People tend to dive out of my way.......
However, the sound of it reminds me of a Beetle, nothing like the beautiful zing of the S2000
I didn't like the quietness of the old car but the 987 is much better..... not quite airbox off good but better than airbox on IMHO.

Try a test in the 987S if you get the chance

You S2000 drivers have turned into a right bunch of miserable buggers since I sold mine...... I still wave at you all but you all ignore me now ...... I did confuse one young lady the other day..... I waved..... she waved back but then she realised she didn't have the same car as me and looked VERY confused

5.5s was the 0-60 independently tested by MIRA on the MY00 car.

By the time I finish updating my car I would expect a 0-60 in less than 5s.
same as a standard 04 then

Oh, I forgot one more thing. This was the 'cheapest facelifted S' the salesman had seen, with 30k mile on the clock -
