Tesla Model S
Honda reckons a LOT farther than that, mainly due to the infrastructure issues.
They insist (they would) that the car/powertrain itself is production-ready & there may be another, less-unaffordable version in a couple of years' time.

Did anyone see the Supercars on National Geographic of this?
Price is meant to be $50,000.
Batteries are from a laptop and are very AA size (If they'd have used hexagonal batteries they'd have extended the range by a good wedge although price would have gone up I suppose).
The 17" tablet dashboard is great in theory, but I can see it being the cause of a lot of accidents, especially when looking for the temperature control!
FCX is obviously the better solution, but I think that's 10 years away.

The engineering is very interesting, what with the low CG, enhanced safety of not having an engine block, enhanced space (it'll seat 7 as an option) superb performance and low running costs (certainly when compared to the Panamera).
There's a very interesting piece in this week's Economist about Tesla. The background is China is imposing über-strict fuel efficiency standards and closer to home, in the EU there's a massive curb in exhaust emissions coming in 2021 following new Draconian regulations.
Insofar as Tesla is concerned, the main points of the article were:
- Production is to hit 1,000 cars-a-week by the end of 2014
- In 2013 in the US, the Tesla Model S outsold the Mercedes S-Class by some 30%
- A new 'budget' Model E coming in three years; $35,000 and a range of 400miles
- There's an (obligatory) SUV coming, the Model X
And Apple have been in discussions with Tesla, so there's the possibility of a iCar, or a purchase of Tesla...

Google are at it too: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...and-Honda.html (and some more Apple info in this article too).
They did & they've just ditched it for the facelift Focus.
There's a bit of a share-pusher w@nkfest going on over Tesla ATM, which is probably why The Apologist is getting in on the hype right now.
Expect a share price bubble, before The Big Three kill my Baby.

I was at Westfield Shopping Castle this weekend and there is a Tesla shop, so I took the opportunity to have a look around the Model S.
What a splendid thing it is, certainly as an alternative to something like a Guantanamera. 7 seats, tons of space inside and so on. If they could do a people carrier or 4x4lookalike version (just spotted the reference to Model X above), they could do very well indeed.
