Chap at work has this on a 330 Coupe - apparently one of the more common failures is the sensor that drives the display. I too prefer a dipstick but then for the majority of people who buy these and never own them past the warranty date i suspect they are not keen on interacting too much with the oily bits.
Wonders then how many could cause engine failure. Common sense makes you check the oil frequently, but having to follow a process of warming it up, finding a level surface then you get your reading on a display is all well & good. Physically seeing it is better than believing it, don't we think?
I'd be uber-protecting the engine by frequent oil changes then! There is a fitting kit available for these, for those that are interested. Your royal googleness will prevail at the supposed available product
