I think Donny is fine for a beginner too. It's also a bit more famous, so he can go back and tell people he drove the soon to be F1 track

In fact, most tracks are fine if you drive within your limits!

It depends if they're after a 'day out' or they're seriously interested in track driving.

Donington will be more of an occasion and is safe enough for beginners but Bedford takes some beating if you really want to push it.

Cheers for the opinions guys! I've riden Donnington on my first track day (Ron Haslam Race School) and its a nice, fast track and like people say, relatively safe if you stay within your limits. I think he'd probably enjoy Donnington rather than an airfield, and Donnington is only 40mins from Sheffield. He's reasonably sensible, so dont think he'll want to stack his new pride and joy!

I'll get some pics up when it arrives in Jan for anyone whos interested, heres a little taster from when he was in the states!

If they're just doing it for a fun day out then see if any of the tracks are doing cheap beginner days. I doubt they'll rag a car like that too much on their first track day anyway (or maybe they would!?). It could be worth forking out a bit more money on some time with an instructor, to make the most of the day.

Either an airfield day, Bedford or somewhere like Silverstone which is flat, wide and has a lot of runoff.

Donington is fine as long as he keeps within his limits, but that Shelby will shift on the straights. Silverstone has a lot of runoff, is a very wide circuit (which is a bit dull in most cars) and ideal for a big-power GT like that.

An airfield day may well be harder on tyres (some worse than others, Elvington is bad though and the surface is quite broken) but wuill allow him to push the car and not worry about getting it wrong.

Bedford has a good surface and is airfield like in the fact there's little to hit if he gets it wrong, but has enough variety to satisfy most beginners.

Elvington near York. Massive run off areas, sort rubber cones.
I once span off at over 80 in an older Elise into some cones and
apart from ten bob tyres there were no damage!

Russ.

I was very close to buying a GT500 from a place I used to visit in the states, wish I had now. Nice bunch of chaps with some cracking cars and would sort out shipping etc for me as well. When the exchange rate was up to nearly $2 to the pond they would be able to supply a nearly new one, on my drive for 28k...... http://www.performanceautogroupusa.com/

That's what made me stop daydreaming in the end, I could only afford to drive it to the end of the road!

Although a supercharged VXR could be an option.....
