I have to ask Gad, serious question..

Why would you want to own a car like that and not track it?

OK, you can have a bit of fun on public roads but unless you arent bothered about losing your license I can't see you'd ever really get the best from a car like that.

To me (this is just how my mind works ) I'd feel bad about not taking a car like that to a track now and then; kind of like owning a greyhound and never letting it out of the house; almost cruel I'd have to let it have its head now and then, so to speak

Didn't Mark B post up once that it's the only car that has scared him acceleration wise with a reference to being in a catapult's sling and then "released" like a shot.

it's a fair enough question

although the greyhound analogy could (and has) been applied to many cars I've owned

I'm simply not interested in track driving and I don't think I'm alone in that

in addition, I don't have any interest in what cars are ultimately capable of, or what I am ultimately capable of in terms of my driving ability

maybe because I have enough adrenalin in other parts of my life?

I can see plenty of enjoyment to be had on continental trips and weekend blats, without risking detention at HMP

I completely respect the desire of others to track their cars - but it simply passes me by

having said that, there is one circumstance where I would track a car, and that's if the only people on the track were people I know and trust

pretty unlikely that's going to happen

As I say I was curious more than anything Gad. Certainly not knocking your reasons for wanting a car like that.

I'm quite blinkered in how my mind works with things like this; Very much a 'form follows function' type mentality and often I overlook the other aspects.

Kelk, that sounds like a good reason to buy a car!

Gad, what about a Noble? I think this Ultima thing has even more Kudos though.

On five occassions I have been present when an ultima has either been dragged or tracked and on all occassions they have broken down. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong however.

I understand the attraction Pete (though I am a little surprised that you are attracted to anything even remotely kit-car!

No 1st hand experience, but some close 2nd hand experience driving back from a Pistonheads Sunday Service meet about this time last year.....they can be a bit frisky!

Was that a 500 Mondial behind the pretty blue supercar, Ian?

I sort of understand Gad's stance in that 500 Mondials and track cars are generally for other people. However, like MB I cannot unthrash whatever I'm driving and so find track days useful; that boy needs therapy...

IIRC I think it was a Fisher Fury thingie Nick.

One of the few cars I have parked next to which makes the NSX look a bit lanky.

It had an issue with reverse, so to park, the driver had to hop out & push

When we take the countach for a spin round Knockhill we are usually joined by one or two Ultimas. They are prone to clutch failure from what I gather as, on one occasion, both the cars that turned up lost their clutches on the same lap! That's hard driving, round a twisty circuit, mind.

The do sound good, and often you'll get a two foot flame coming from the exhausts. I have a video of such a thing, as it passed me in the S at the track. I'll try to find it.

Meantime, there's usually a black one for sale here

Aha the lure of something ridiculous

I sat in this one yesterday...

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/940975.htm

I've got to know the manager (as he sells Lotuses ) and he said it was the scaryest thing he's ever driven.

They won't let anyone out for a test drive unless there's money and insurance on the table - he said, bearing in mind they sell 430 Scuderias, Maseratis and Astons, it was on a different planet to anything else he's been in.

Scary stuff!

I'm about to put a rant on another thread about 'other' cars as I've been test driving all weekend
