Smile Car broken into

soooo.....

apparently last night my poor S got hit up by some pros. now i dont have an alarm but it appears that they slashed my top, popped the hood and disconnected the battery terminals then proceeded to steal my seats and my stereo.

i had just replaced the top with a Robbins a couple months ago and did the labor myself so that was of great frustration to see all that work for naught. THEN, i got the call from the insurance guy to tell me how much new seats cost. it seems that you can't buy whole, new seats, but instead have to buy the parts and then they assemble them, every nut/bolt/screw and spring. the cost off all these parts, plus labor, plus tax for two seats?

$8066!!! WTF?!! they would essentially have to total the car instead. so we're looking for seats at some salvage yards instead.

anyway, it seems as if this is going around because my adjuster was at Crown Honda on Independence and said there was a white S2k there with the same issue and that Honda had just fixed another one and sent it home today.

BEWARE FOLKS!!!! and be vigilant about where you park and how secure the area is. I've been parking on my street for six years with nary a problem. of course the street light has been out for months and still hasn't been fixed yet which i'm sure contributed my unfortunate experience this morning.

Try to get them to cut you a check for everything. Do the top yourself, and buy some seats here. Sorry about the break in. My top got slashed 4 weeks after I had it put on. I put my robbins on myself, so I understand your frustration there.

Sucks. There are stories here on the board where folks have had their car totaled because of that nonsense. Our seats fit in other vehicles and are in demand. This has been going on for years now.

SgtB has solid advice. Best of luck.

Same thing happened to my car a little over a year ago. I didn't get my seats stolen but I can still understand the frustration. Its crazy what those seats cost isn't it... Definately buy them off the boards so they don't total the car.
