I used to work for a company (Hyster) that was headquartered in Greenville, NC. I was over there dozens of times, and I only found out about The Dragon after I'd left.
Don't know if you guys caught the Fox News reports on The Dragon. There's a couple of videos here.
Actually, I think JAHumphrey came up with the name, but I'm getting old ("past my years") and can't exactly remember.
The whole thing started last year when Ron and I just wanted to spend a weekend in the mountains near the Dragon, so we booked a room at a lodge, and then just posted where we were staying, and that anyone was welcome to join us for a weekend of driving, relaxing and hanging out.
It's a small informal gathering with no real plans...hence the "official non-event" status.
Now it's time to look forward to Wake the Dragon in April; one of our favorite "official" events!
Informal meets are usually the one's that are remembered most fondly by the attendees IMO.
Less stress and pressure on folks to make sure they enjoy themselves. (Especially the organisers)
The S2kJocks (Scots, not athletes with no brains ), usually organise meets the night before.
We've managed 27 so far this year, ranging from 135 to 1200 miles.
I digress.....
Do they ever close the road for official timed events?
That's the Bald River waterfall ( guess how I remembered THAT one! ). The road is off of the Cherryhola Skyway and follows the river. VERY nice drive with a reward at the end.
