High Mileage S2K's
What's the highest mileage anyone has heard of on any S2k? Just wonder if anyone knows of 100K+ S2K and what kind of problems were experienced. I would expect the S2K to have the equivalent reliability as other Hondas, but because the S2K is a performance car most people drive them hard and not just on the autoX circuit. For example, how long would the clutch last...any major engine failure issues, etc. I know Honda keeps records on maintenance trends like any other manufacturer but I don't know if it would be available to the public or how to access it. I intend to drive my 2k2 S2K for many miles, normally don't drive too hard on the street and only autoX occasionally and follow the dealer maintenance schedule except I change oil/filter every 3K miles.
On another part of the site a guy just posted he had like 86k I think it was and he expected to hit 100 by the end of the year. He did have some kind of engine troubles along the way though. Just do a search and you will probably find 100 threads that relate to this.
I'm far from high mileage right now, but with 14,000 in 4 months and still going, I'd be willing to race anyone with less than 50,000 miles on their car to the 100,000 mile mark!
Keep your eye on the board as I'm sure I'll post any "issues" I may run into along the way...
Hope to see you in Charleston for the next auto-x!

its a honda. i dont think you'll have any big problems unless you add a turbo/sc
the clutch is really all driver. im guessing i'll have to change mine around 60k miles. honda says the first tune up is at 110k miles. but i will probably do plugs/wires and fuel filter around 35k.
drive hard. just not stupid. id recommend keeping it off the dragstrip.
it may be rwd, but its still a honda
fti, my friends gsr which he rags out all the time just hit 205k yes 205,000 miles on the original engine
and he has a few mods on it and autocrosses it.

Thanks for the feedback...I did a search and found a lot of info on the subject...I'm also interested in any 'hidden warranties' that anyone runs across...I drove my Miata for about 3 years and the #4 main bearing went out and requiring an engine replacement (damage was to the bearing housing in the block)...$5, 263 worth...I searched Miata.net and found a TSB indicating that it was a manufacurer's defect so I called Mazda corporate and negotiated a 'goodwill adjustment' and they paid for half new engine...this was a common problem in the Miata engine installed in a certain VIN range and Mazda wasn't required to notify owners since it was not a safety issue....the customer service oriented dealer never informed me of this hidden warranty and was perfectly willing to let me pay for the whole thing. I had 67K on the engine so Mazda paying for half of the cost was the best I could do even if I went to court. I promptly traded the Miata for the S2000 primarily because I couldn't trust Mazda (my Miata probably would run forever with the new engine) and I also had planned to upgrade to the S eventually anyway. Hopefully Honda would be more honest with customers.
Don't know if I will make it to Charleston next month, but I am planning on the event at BMW in October.
