Well I agree with Chas, James is correct...it is indeed against credit card merchant agreement contracts to charge extra for a credit card purchase. I dont know if it is "illegal" per say...but if you do it you wont be taking credit cards in your store very long.....and you can offer a cash discount.
Society is set up to protect the consumer...very little merchant rights...the banks always win
Why does the bank charge the merchant for a bounced check if the consumer is already being charged by the bank for the check bouncing?
...and if a merchant calls the bank to check on available funds currently for the bounced account the banks charges the merchant again

I hear you Pengy. However, it's a rare business that can survive cash-only. I've seen a few, like local pizza places and even a big retail store (called "Spags"), but it's rare.
I assume even the online businesses are paying the CC companies even if they're not paying tax. Does that sound reasonable? I think not.
