Failure on your part to note the question I actually answered does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Okay, Unkie, how do I politely tell a particular person to stop sending me racist, ill-informed, super conservative emails? In the past, I replied to her forward that suggested people on welfare are all addicted, mentally ill lazy asses by saying that emails like that were contributing to stereotypes about homeless and poor people. I replied to her forwarded rant about immigrants being the downfall of Christianity and our very nation by refuting\challenging every single ridiculous sentence. Apparently she didn't get the point. Do you think that asking her outright to stop sending any political\religious forwards to me will actually work?

Probably not. However, you might feel better knowing you did all you can. Consider two things:

1. What happens if she actually responds and stops.

2. What you might do if she doesn't stop.

1. That would be awesome.

2. I've considered replying to every single email that pisses me off - either by sharing my opinion with her and\or remind her that I don't want to receive those kinds of emails. Can't really block her since she's a relative...Or maybe...

Per #1: Be ready to reinforce that behavior if she stops. That is to say, just give her a pleasant phone call

Per #2: Don't change her opinion. Let her know how receiving these e-mails makes you feel. More to the point, remind her that forwarding to everybody is not the same as taking the time out and talking with you.

Re: #1 - Good call... :groan:

Re: #2 - I didn't think I'd change her opinion any more than she could change mine. However, that just made me realize I was being really frigging immature: I was sort of doing the 'eye for an eye' thing. I figured that if I mirrored her reply, she would react similar to me and see that she shouldn't send those kind of emails. Of course this is absolutely ridiculous and not at all how I usually try to approach things.

What do you say to someone that bought a puppy from a puppy mill, and the puppy is sick a week after bringing the puppy home - and they're upset over it? I want to them, but...
