Just when I'm concerned I might be a geek, someone like this comes along and saves my self esteem.

I saw Rio abandoned the mp3 player market this week. Less competition is bad.

I bought a Rio. 128MB + SD expansion was all I needed. I guess most consumers want the drive based players now.

What is there to defend? Your argument is weak and full of fallacy. The logical extension of your claim is that every country with a railway system, prison, and weapons is as evil as the Nazis, that every user of garden tools is as evil as a chainsaw-powered serial killer.
It's not the possession of tools that makes people evil but rather the committing of evil acts. Apple has done nothing here except for declare a desire to keep their software married to their hardware. I certainly can't argue with that. It doesn't take a software engineer to see that supporting every bozo network card and buggy chip set out there is one of the greatest anchors dragging down Microsoft's quality as well as their ability to innovate.
Apple could do evil things in their upcoming systems, and I'll change my mind about them if and when it happens, but marrying their software to their hardware just isn't it.

MS built something evil but didn't use it (largely because of pressure not because they are kind).
Apple took that evil thing and may use it. If they do that makes them more evil than MS
It isn't who invents the evil thing but who uses it.
Your argument is frankly incoherent.

in a GEEKY way of course!
