I think we're not far off in our thinking here.

Cliff notes..Free speech is important and the righteous thing to do...until it steps on the wrong righteous toes.

I'm not sure that ANY political/religious/pro-this/anti-that speech should even be allowed on public school grounds. I don't even like how school buildings are turned into places of worship on the weekends.

Umm, dave. . . uhhh. . . how would you teach critical thinking with a ban on ANY political/religious/pro-this/anti-that speech?

Or, are you meaning in the context of speech not for pedagogical ends?

I'd rather yell fire in a crowed movie house than BONG HITS 4 JESUS is a crowed church.

I'm not a fan of any group coming on campus and setting up a booth or promoting their ideas, (ACORN, Greenpeace, Amnesty Intl, Students for Jesus, SADD, MADD, etc etc)

IF a school allows Greenpeace to promote the banning of killing baby seals, then the school should allow the complete opposite group to promote their point of view.

Dave hits on the root of the problem. The school *will* have a political and social bias and *will* promote it to your children given the chance.

It is *the parent* who needs to promote critical thinking but they need help. A child feels pretty vulnerable voicing opposition in the school setting especially to a validated (by their parents and society) authority figure.
