Weird enough I know the detailed answer to this one.

I thought they were from Belgium or some other French speaking country? I'll say fact.

 

Also, weren't we supposed to call them freedom fries? Or was that just Texas?

 

Doesn't matter, the proper way to get fries is to order poutine.

Belgium is the home of French fries, which were first created about 1680. The locals of the Meuse Valley in Belgium enjoyed eating strips of small fried fish, but when the rivers froze it was impossible to fish, so they replaced the fried fish with long strips of fried potatoes.
