i've been trying to look for a car that i like more than the S2000 (within probably 50k both ways) for 4 years. i still can't find one i'd rather own? yes there are a couple I like, but none that I'd really WANT to own. i was talking with my cousins the other day:

"hey george, what's your ultimate dream car?"
"i'd like to have an S2000 and probably a WRX wagon to tote around the cello and groceries, etc"
"why don't you add up the S2000 and WRX money and get an even better car?"
"uhh because there is nothing in that price range that i'd rather have."
"oh"
byebye to the conversation!!! ha .

My problem is that there are several cars (including Guinness when she's operating properly) that I like as much if not more than the S. The Elise and the Caterham are on that list as is, probably, a Boxter...though they seem to stir my soul a little less than some Porsches...

The list is probably as follows:
Caterham
Miata (when running properly)
Elise
S2000
Boxter (I wouldn't buy new, so the price issue sort of normalizes)

Agreed there are many nice cars... the ones you cite being some. My issue (now) with both the Caterham and Elise is as above... service, space etc. If your not concerned about those sort of things I suppose they're awesome choices.

I like George's idea of an S and a WRX wagon. In fact I think I'll do it.

Service is one issue, but not so much for the Caterham. After all, there's not that much to service and I can (and would) wrench on it myself. As for the Elise, the cost of maintenance might be an issue, but the convenience isn't since the Lotus dealer is only about 10 minutes from my house (the Honda dealer I referenced is less than 5).

I have also long considered getting a Scooby wagon as a second car, but right now I don't have adequate space for a second car. I sold the Contour not for the money, but because it was literally rotting away sitting under the trees in the shade by my place.
