The list is probably as follows:
Caterham
Miata (when running properly)
Elise
S2000
Boxter (I wouldn't buy new, so the price issue sort of normalizes)
I would seriously like to know why you have the S 4th on the list. Truly I'm interested in the logic behind this list. I like all the cars for different reasons but can't figure the logic of the order.

[QUOTE=brantshali,Dec 29 2004, 03:59 PM] My problem is that there are several cars (including Guinness when she's operating properly) that I like as much if not more than the S.

I'm not sure logic is the right term, but here's my reasoning.

Caterham--I've lusted after the car for ages and it's so elemental that I can't help but put it first.
Miata (specifically Guinness)--Despite the problems, I LOVE this car. I enjoy the handling dynamics and small size of this car more than any other car I've driven thus far. I wish it had more power, but if I had to trade off, I would take a car that handles well every time.
Elise--Another extremely elemental sports car. A decent cross between a Caterham and a "real" car.
S2000--Great power. Excellent handling. Feels a bit too big for my tastes, but I am still considering one.
Boxter--To start with...it's a Porsche. Well balanced drivers car. Like the S, a bit too big for my tastes, but still within the realm of auto lust for me.

Not sure this sheds much light on my decisions for you, but if you ask questions I can surely try to answer them. Basically, my tastes run towards smaller, elemental sports cars.

S2000 feels big compared to the Miata? Interesting. I never felt that way.

Agreed there are many nice cars... the ones you cite being some. My issue (now) with both the Caterham and Elise is as above... service, space etc. If your not concerned about those sort of things I suppose they're awesome choices.

I like George's idea of an S and a WRX wagon. In fact I think I'll do it.
I'd go for the Forester XT myself with the "de-tuned" STi engine

I've driven both and agree... they are and feel smaller. Great thrill ride. You get a genuine roadster experience.

I had a '90 Miata for 11 years. I've felt more confined in the S because of the higher door sills and the center tunnel. Yes, the Miata was smaller, but the S feels smaller to me.

Anyway, I loved the Miata too, but I've seen some crash crumple tests that put me firmly in the S camp. That amazing frame is really worth it's extra weight.

OIC... I thought you meant 'driving feel'. No bout adoubt it, the S feels like a racing car when sitting in it.

Too true (about safety). The safety of the S frame was another consideration in the Elise decision.
