If you're going that route, why not get a Kia, the ultimate pity car?

Alas, in the baseball game of life, I was sent to the minors and promptly traded for a 5 gallon jug of Gatorade and some chew.

yo yo yo.. kinda late reply..

but i say try the debt consolidation loan route first to tackle debt... i've done that before and jus had them make my payment low for like 2 years.. and BAM.. all gone..

i even tried the beater method.. doesnt work.. cuz look.. letsay your beater (dc2) goes for what... $3-6k? thats money up front.. not sure how much you still owe on the S.. but whatever it is.. thats still money you need up front to buy the beater... THENN... you gotta think that the beater has problems too... I came across stupid things on my beater... clutch slave cylinder... stupid flats here and there... unexpected things.. u know what i mean?

so you basically gave up your car... which works perfectly... to get a run down beater to commute with... so basically the tradeoff... instead of a $400-500/month for a trouble free car... your gonna have no car payments... but your gonna be dumping money into this beater to get it to good running condition.. and driving a pos.. i dunno.. if your gonna get a commuter... get a commuter.. like a corolla... sentra... something thats known to just do nothing but move... and that might help...

but i know alot of people who have beaters and its nothing but a money pit...

my $.02

good luck on whatever you decide tho

The money I get out of the S will pretty much buy a Teg with little to no payments.. so I'll be looking at around 200+ extra dollars a month on that plus not buying tires every 4 months so thats 400 more every 4 months roughly.. I can do 75% of anything a tech at a dealership does so even if the car has minor problems I got that on lock and got friends to get parts from.

I also look at it this way... my car hasn't been anywhere close to problem free and the 100k mile mark is creeping up slowly on a 11.0:1 compression motor that revs 9k isn't exactly what I'd like to keep driving everyday. A 98ish Integra with around 80k miles shouldn't have any problems.. B series motors will run like champs forever. I bleed Honda almost... and know them like the back of my hand.. so to get anything other than that for a daily driver would be shooting myself in the foot if I did have any problems.

I totally understand where your coming from though and I have looked at it at all angles. I gotta replace my driver side wheel bearing now too on the S so its been way more of a money pit stock than any of my other built cars.

Ahh ok..

I dont see how you need to replace tires that often?

I've been using the same set of tires for almost 2 years... rotated 3 times... i dont think i drive that much like a girl..
