LCD or Plasma? Or DLP?
What is the minimum resolution I should look for?
Is the new 1080P resolution that big of a difference?
I would probably go LCD.

You definitely want something that is HD (720 or 1080) and is native to one of those. Not sure if that is possible.

As I understand it, 1080P is not an HDTV standard. There won't be any 1080P programming. Therefore, everything will have to be upscaled to 1080P. I'm guessing any improvement will be along the lines of a progressive scan DVD player vs a standard player (480P vs 480i). In othere words, a slight improvment but not near the improvement from SD to HD.

I'm sure you are familiar with avsforum. com. It's been a while since I browsed through there.

[QUOTE=mikes2k,Feb 3 2006, 11:39 AM]We are moving and are considering a new flat panel TV. Sadly I have become a home electronic neophyte ..we are still working on a 35" tube (top o the line Hitachi Ultravision, in its day was a beauty)

Anyway I need some advice. We have a small room so we are hoping to get a wall mount.

[QUOTE=shareall,Feb 3 2006, 02:14 PM] I really have nothing of value to contribute. My television is a floor model that I think predates even my birth. It was left behind by my dad's degenerate border, and of course dad left it behind when I moved in and he moved out.
Looks something like this:

This thread might shed a little light:

I'm not comvinced that high definition DVD (HD-DVD or Blu Ray) will replace the current DVD format before 2010.

If I were a studio, I would sell both formats as long as possible while charging a premium for the HD formats.

Actually, studios didn't like multiple formats when DIVX was coming out. That led to its' downfall.

And if it wasn't for Walmart demanding all movies they sell be available in 4:3 AND 16:9... many studios would have stopped making 4:3 DVDs long ago!
