does the miata have the multi-link rear setup like the rx? I noticed when I drove a miata it felt very similar to the rx. I liked that alot...

Just a simple double wishbone.

The thing I like about the Miata is that it's so simple, yet works so amazingly well. Particularly on my 92, there is very little on that car that isn't necessary to do the job.

I guess the older ones are more "pure". I've been reading some talk about honda changing gear ratios for next year to make in more "street friendly" which would certainly make in faster in a straight line, but mess up it's track characteristics. I hope they don't do it.

Tranny gear ratios or rear end? I'm assuming tranny, because I've read the same...though no specifics on what changes. It would really depend on the track how much it would adversely impact track performance, though, wouldn't it?

Most people I know don't hit top speed on most tracks and the gearing changes could potentially help the car coming out of tight corners where the current gearing leaves the car somewhat lacking in grunt.

And, yes, the earlier Miatas are definitely more pure. The only "luxury" that my car has is power windows. It even has less bracing in the body structure than the later models. That's why the rollbar compensates so much on my car.

I can't think of a car I've ever driven that I liked 1st gear in...

this one comes the closest... my rx7's 1st gear and I had a mutual hatred for each other.... the BMW made me feel like I was raping it to get it in 1st gear.... the s2000 just gets wide-eyed and screams as it goes in..... what can you do.

I had no choice on day - I had a car swerve at me and cut me off, I had to slam the brakes and needed tons of power to go around the other way now, and only 1st could give it. I thought I'd broke something, I put it in first at like 30 mph ~ 6000-7000..... oof....... CLUNK! but no grind and then tons of power as requested..... needless to say because it was a "danger" situation and not a "fun" one I didn't give much thought to proper rev matching so the box surely wasn't ready for it.... *sigh*
