The 289/302 is a good motor. Older than the hills, but tuneable and nearly bulletproof!
it is the second finest block for ever built, the first being the cleveland block of course, and not for the block, but for the heads. They don't make aftermarket heads for it because they are already as good as they come..... nutty. Ford had a moment where they built the best power goodies, then they promptly shoe-horned their heads into their asses, never to return.......

and yes, koni's on a miata... the car handles on rails already, i can only imagine what it can do with aftermarket suspension.

The Koni's on Guinness are definitely nice. Seem to work well with the stock springs so far. If I decide to forego Stock C class autocross the first thing I'm doing is getting the Spec Miata springs, though.
actually, brant, with your staggered fore/aft weight, an active suspension could easily remedy the side-effects associated with a nose-heavy balance.
wickster, this rx7 sounds better and better by the minute. it reminds me of my 240z. it handles on rails through the corners. with only a 280Z engine donor (and heads from 280ZX Turbo, for about 220 crank hp), i can hang with well-driven C5s, Z28s, WRX's, etc. the only problem is they outrun me on the straights! with an rx7, i'll have the 'samurai' handling but not the annoying lack of straight-line speed.

brant, get your 'handling nailed' and i guarantee your miata will outrun stock s2000s (with so-so drivers) on track days. the miata is THAT fast. on the auto-x circuit it's a whole different story. the miata owns - no arguing.
