What do you think of Apple now?

Lame duck systems.

I went ahead and bought the Mac mini for ma and pa. I'm not concerned about future software since they will only be using it for three things: email, internet, and music arrangement.Basically, it's a glorified internet appliance that is small enough to hide in the entertainment center for use on the big screen. I can't wait to do a little
ing on it.

Precisely the problem my friend. Not bad equipment (and of course it 'runs'... so does my old 8086) but it's EOL. Not a time to invest in it.

[QUOTE]Why buy a Mac now?
With the knowledge that a Mac you buy today will not even be running on the same architecture in a year or two, why would you make such an investment?

Mac users are fanatical...most have older machines serving some purpose (right Ken?)

I do think Jobs should not have shown all his cards at this time. They will need to support PowerPC machines for some time. He could have announced that they would be adding Intel based machines to their product line due to the lack of a suitable G5 chip for PowerBooks. Then let IBM and Intel race to make better chips.
