so you're saying that when you're driving, you're actually doing work?

Both torque and horsepower are what you feel when you put your foot in it and !!!

As far as I'm concerned, every moment that I breathe I'm doing work...

[B][COLOR=red][oink]Torque is a measure of how much a force acting on an object causes that object to rotate. Horsepower is defined as work done over time aka Power (not necessarily in a rotation).

Torque is the "Force" vector component that acts to 'rotate something'.

Not at all, Lesley. It's amazing how many different interpretations of HP vs. torque are out there...

It's more than just force though. Torque, calculated as r x F (r "cross" F, where r - radius, F - force) so give the same amount of force (and same direction), the further the force is applied from the center of rotation it is applied, the greater the torque.
[oink]that's why I said "...that' causes the object to rotate". I didn't want to say the "cross product". It is the Cross. right.? I think it is.[/oink]

You are but very little.

I kow your kidding but a HS phsics teacher said it best when he described 3 guys moving sand bags. One guy lifted them 3 feet and gave them to another guy who carried them at waist level for a mile and handed them to another guy who carried them down a 30 foot ladder.

the first guy does almost all the work. the second guy did very little and the third.... does less than no work, it's negative work.

Cool
