In simple terms:

Having Torque= being able to accelerate well without downshifting

Having Horsepower= downshifting, than tearing up the road like a bat out of hell.


This is why most larger engines,ike diesels, are used for towing. They have more torque than horsepower, so they have stronger pulling power.
