Massive s2k meet
So I had some thoughts brewing after reading that homecoming meet thread that can be found here: CA Homecoming Meet
And I asked myself could we do this in the northeast?
Basically the point of this thread is to gauge interest in an event like this.
What I am considering is:
1. Finding a suitable location for a lot of cars (either indoor or outside depending on costs)
2. Acquiring sponsors / vendors for the event
3. Getting prizes to award winners of contests / raffles (somewhat similar to a car show based on looks, sound, speed, cleanliness, etc)
4. Finding Honda personnel who are related to the s2000 and asking for their attendance
5. Some sort of drinks / food vendors
6. Plan a route for an s2k drive (responsibly of course)
7. Possibly more (open to suggestions or mechanics, installers, restaurants who may want to attend / work)
What I’d like to do is see how many people could make the event before I start working on sponsors. To keep costs per person low we would need to get as many people as possible. I’m aiming to match if not exceed the “Homecoming” event in CA without the crazy drive.
I cannot reasonably claim that this event will happen definitely but with enough interest I’m sure I can attract suitable people/vendors who can help make an event truly unforgettable.
I only ask that you be serious about your interest, I am a normal working fellow member who will be taking a lot of my own time trying to make something spectacular. Not to mention help in any of these areas / ideas are not only welcomed but encouraged!
Between the roster for NY, NJ, and PA we have close to 700 members. Now I am by no means ready to set a date but I’m sure it will be on a weekend in the summer, either this or early next year.
Please do not PM me UNLESS you are a sponsor interested in coming to an event like this, or have direct ties to someone in the area that would be beneficial to this sort of gathering. I am aiming to host an event like this with the eastern PA, southern NJ, or northern DE area. (Hoping to be easily accessible to all and with outside of any major areas, we all hate traffic)
If you are interested please place a number (in consecutive order of course) and your name in your post.

This is actually something very hard to plan. We have talked about this much over the course of the last few years.
When I think of something like this I see a few major issues:
Upfront money, and more importantly specific location.
With the current state of the economy, I would think vendors would be more than happy to attend a meet where enthusiasts would be able to get a hold of their products. I personally am willing to put forth alot of effort towards this. I also understand that this is a major task, and would really like to receive help in certain aspects of the planning and organizing.
I'm hoping wherever we do meet up we would have the security issues handled by the location manager, as well as parking. Considering that we do not have a specific date I just wanted to get the ball rolling.
It just bothers me that all the great events are held 3000 miles away, and this would look great on my resume! (I'm a management major, with a minor in human resources)
I understand that this would take major planning, but it is a good idea nonetheless.
Even though I am no longer an s2k owner, I attend some of the meets when possible.
I have also detailed for some members of our chapeter as well, and would like to be able to advertise my services at a meet of this caliber, and maybe even showcase a couple detailed s2k's if anyone hires me to do some beofre the event.

Do it in PA! Relatively inexpensive location and fantastic roads. Jk. Would love to see it pulled off.
I'd be in for such an event.
Anyway look towards prior "the dragon" meets. I believe a decent number of s2ks meet to run the twistiest road (in the country)? It's in the tenn/north Carolina area I believe.
IMO, Your major hurdle for having a large event in general is the marketing to get s2k owners out and the convincing for them to want to come out. First time would always be the hardest...

I'll repeat what the others have said, it's a lot of work. I hosted the vintage Spring Fling in Cape May last May. That was only 40 cars and a lot of work. Logitics, cash, flow, liabilities, hotels, restaurants, and the list goes on.
S2KDays was in Lake George NY in 2008, and it's in Asheville this year. Ther are some significant sized meets on the east coast and the NE is also had quite a few. Noreaster last year and 2007, and Fall Crawl which is on again this year is in the Berkshires. Actually most of the bigger meets seem to be on the east coast.
You want to plan one, pick a date, pick a place for 2011 and post it. And just be ready to do a whole bunch of work, and don't count on having near as much help as you would like. That's how they work, ask jfo about FC2005.
