Default SCCA Track Night at Pocono Raceway 9/13

Anybody going to this event? I just signed up. It will be my first time on a track. I'll be in novice group, but I'd love to ride along with some of you more experienced drivers.

Holeshot121, I'm not even sure the SCCA will allow ride-alongs. Then again, what's allowed and what actually happens isn't always the same.

Please try to make a NASA event at NJMP and I (or others) will be more than happy to give you a seat shotgun.

Oct 14-16 and Nov 5-6.

I checked it out on their site, and it's supposed to be allowed as long as you ask permission from an official. They discourage joy rides (or taking a spectator with) but seem to be okay with getting a ride from another participant to get tips.

I'm certainly open to the HPDE at NJMP. I didn't realize they were so pricey though. I'll be returning from a vacation and closing on a house in the first 2 weeks of October, so it might be a little tight. I'll try to make it though.

Grab one of the NY Metro guys that will be there to ride along with you then. nibble (Paul) in a white CR has been tracking for years.

When I mentioned NASA, I meant stop down for a ride-along and not necessarily for you to participate but that would always be welcome too.

NASA can be $ but, in their defense, you will get quality track time, on a weekend (no time off from work) and 5 X 25 minute runs on a true road course, with an instructor if you so desire.

Ahh I see. Those are all valid points, and I didn't think about just going for a ride along. I can almost definitely do that. Thanks again for the suggestions and guidance.

You can ride along at TNIA as long as you are a also running your car in the event. You are more than welcome to ride with me. I had a couple of my buddies ride along with me the last two times I was up at Pocono.

TNIA at Pocono is the perfect event to see if you like the idea of HPDE.

Joe, I actually find NASA the least safe group out there..... They will run anywhere at anytime. Maybe you can convince me otherwise. If mr.freq does NASA, it can't be that bad. Although, They ran Dominion first even though it was no where near ready. Kinda risky and people did lose it due to poor track conditions/curbing.

Holeshot, you will hear all points of view. If you want to do really good HPDE, get a rollbar and join PCA. Their tech is top notch and the quality of cars are not that bad. You don't have to own a Porsche to be a PCA member.

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks for the tips and the offer. I didn't realize there was such a difference between event organizers. I'll see you Tuesday. I'll be in a NFR AP1 with stock wheels that were bead blasted (they look grey). They were supposed to get painted black, but I never got around to it.

Holeshot, jump in, the water is warm. Enjoy!!

The SCCA TNiA is probably the cheapest, easiest way to get on track as a beginner.
