Default Dunkirk

on hbo now. This is a moving and spectacular film about people in the middle of war. Nolan does a great job of putting you everywhere all at once, scenes that are experienced from many different perspectives. There are no real stars, this is about heroism and behavior in the midst of traumatic events. There is action, well done, but not in the traditional sense of most war movies: its action from just far enough away to see what is going on, then you are put in the middle of it all, then another angle, other men, other drama. A minimum of dialogue, characters grow and develop in subtle ways before our eyes then it is gone, that little "tell". Heroism is defined, but in the end everyone just wants to survive that experience. There are lulls in the action and story and then everything happens at once. Not a traditional war film, reminds me of The Thin Red Line. 9.5 outta 10 cause if you are a Christopher Nolan fan his prints are all over this.
