Red Wine
I just came back from Napa. I don't think I will be buying wine for a while. While up there, I get to try Silver Oak's '97 Cabernet Sauvignon. The highlight of the trip was a private party in the Opus One winery. Can you imagine "all you can drink" '97 and '85 Opus One? Quoting another guest at the event who is really into wine: "Today is the highlight of my wine drinking career!". Everything is down hill from here...
The problem is I can't afford to do any of this myself. The Silver Oak Cabernet alone was $180 after tax & Tips. The private party at Opus One costed more than my S2K. I was just the lucky bastard that was along for the ride.

You know your wine
Is there a general consesus on '97 or '85 a better vintage for Opus one? I don't know much about wine, but I liked the '97 better. I think Silver Oak and Opus one are both fine wine. As for prices, that's just a matter of supply and demand. I was impressed with the Opus One Winery itself. The facility was quiet modern. The stainless steel fermitation tanks are gravity fed, the grapes are hand selected. The building itself reminds me of the buildings in the game "Myst".
