The Shaft
This movie is some fun, why??? it has Naomi Watts in it...and she plays a cute and silly gutsy tabloid reporter. But best of all it has Ron Perlman(see Hellboy or the beast in beauty and the beast..he is not the character played by linda hamilton) at his cigar chomping, swearing and shouting, and grimacing best.
Also contained herewith is at least one bad evil scientists who has govt code red security clearance...played by a classical kinda bad B movie guy...Michael Ironside. They bring Michael in towards the end to suffer some timely ending...so that there can be justice, retribution, and some definite closure.
There is this elevator from hell, with a NY kinda attitude...run by a strange secret govt bio engineered chip that chooses to...kill people in ny! This thing nests in a building elevator shaft no less...thus the fantastically appropriate title..most of the interior shots were done in England so it is well done for a B movie.
Now you got collateral damage, innocent people loosing body parts, killer elevator rides from hell, and indoor stinger missile action. plenty of small talk in between the good stuff. they even call out the swat team for show.
i mean how often do you get to see a killer elevator movie? i think the story was written in the "momentum" style of writing...you get some cool stuff happening then you write an ending to wrap it all up.
best of all, like i said, it has ron perlman in it waving his arms and chewing his cigar and stuff....that elevates this film to a 4 outta 10 on my scale.
