Some people SUCK!
Well-you'd at least get a wedding gift from the no-shows.
Bottom line-if you sign up for something that you have to pay for, and you don't show up, you are still responsible for the money (unless you give plenty of notice that you weren't able to attend, and that you wished to be removed from the event.

no if you pay and cant show up you dont get a refund thats your problem you didnt show up
in the end ifyou register and dont give plenty of notice and get a confirmed message from raul saying that you dont have to pay then you must pay.
and i dont mean the day before I mean months before...shit my S was in the shop the whole time during the dragon but since I payed I didnt think I deserved a refund so instead of just sitting on my ass in knoxville i drove the rental focus up to the dragon and ran it as hard as i could but ended up being about 20 minutes behind everyone on the skyway
the point is you pay if you register....if you dont show oh well....if your car breaks down oh well......if your mom dies oh ****ing well

show me this on the current sign up process and I would say the people on the list have some liability.
until then, IMHO, Airgate is attempting to recoup monies lost by pulling at the heart strings of the people that did not pay or attend.
The simple fact still remains that the scheduling of the dinners and lunches and the ordering of the promo materials were done abso-facto and not accounted for before ordering..
Anybody here own a business or taken an business ethics class?
Anybody ever done a room block for an on-site event/seminar/whatever? if you do not negotiate beforehand very well and over-promise other things like receptions and lunches and dinners etc., you are hit with an attrition fee for rooms not used during the event. The participants who registered and do not attend are not billed for the rooms, that comes out the planning party's pocket = sorry, so sad
and even if you kept those people's registration fees, the cost of the event is rarely more than the fees for rooms not used per person.Business does not work the way you guys are trying to describe it.
Unless stated in plain english before the time of registering that each registrant is being billed at that time and therefore responsible for all fees at the time of submitting the registration, there is no liability for that person to pay whether you think it is right or not.
Raul, I apologize for making a big stink of things. I will continue to pay and attend and support this great event.
.::EDIT::.
Seeing Ruexp67's link and quote of:
(Payment of registration fee is due on or before April 7th or your registration will be dropped)
They should have been dropped from the registration process alltogether. Period!
No shirts ordered, no lanyards, no magnets, no dinners, No lunches, nothing!
there is no justified reason for anyone of these people to pay anything unless they FEEL compelled to do so out of the sheer kindness of their heart.
After the beratement I have read here, I would would guess you would be hard pressed to find any kindness in any ones heart concerning this matter.

The burden resides with the planners IMHO and I apologize for not laying down and agreeing with everyone.
set a cutoff date and order your food counts and promo items after that date. lack of planning on your part does not constitute a financial obligation on my part.
Or even more simple, put a mandatory terms of agreement disclaimer on the sign up page that states that the registrant is considered responsible for payment of all fees and they are assessed at the time of registration whether they attend or not.
To my knowledge such a warning did not exist when I registered. Trying to recoup these expenses after the fact (from people that neither paid or attended) is ridiculous and is in poor form.

Me personally, I would have followed up with some communication saying that I couldn't go to let them know, but that's just me.
From a purely business perspective, I agree with Rob here.
I also think that calling people names is in poor form and is unlikely to yeild the desired result.
I do feel bad that the club was shorted, and that Raul paid out of pocket for the expenses, and I would like to see him compensated. However, I think it could have been handled differently, mabey even from the beginning, to avoid this situation.

If I saw this, and had not yet paid, and knew I couldn't go, I would have assumed that they would drop my registration and I would no longer be responsible for payment.

I always thought of Dragon events as small bunch of very fine folks who wanted to have a few hundred other fine folks over for a good time, to share something special and unique. Everyone should be lucky enough to belong to a group of friends like this.
I was in a pinch a few years ago and had to ask Raul and company to let me pay at the door so to speak. It was well after the cut off but he let me slide in at the last moment. Maybe it was not the way to conduct

Of course, holy hell would have been raised if 1 person on that list hadn't received their t-shirt/lanyard/decal after paying.
Yeah-it wasn't the clearest policy posted, but so what. Paying for your commitments is the right thing to do.
I made arrangements to split a cabin with Chad (Black Nugget) for the weekend. Work came up & I had to bail out on Chad after 1 night. I made a commitment to Chad for 1/4 of the cost. Even though I left after 1 night, I didn't ask for any money back. I left WTD07 early, and yes, I've kidded Raul about applying my partial refund to DBR07 or WTD08 but I don't expect it.
Raul-you have PM.

this is sad.
I didnt send in my check in time (I dont send checks to anyone) but Raul trusted me to pay for my registration when I got there. It really worked out for me.
Bet thats never gona be offered agian, thanks to some people who cant pay.
If you have to ask for money theres a problem. If you have to ask ONCE for money, theres a problem.
and this isnt a business. its a group of friends having fun.
