52 in a 30. I may have been going faster. It was a trooper at mile marker 4. It's my first for any trip to the gap.
You gonna get a lawyer?
Probably.

In case anyone else got popped by the Highway Patrol, I called Blount County and the lady said it takes HP about 15 business days to get tickets to them. So I'll be calling back on 5/5.

Valentines can be found by VA radar detector detectors. They are NOT safe in VA. I had one in my '04 but exchanged it for a 9500ci in my CR.

Pay the big bucks and get an Escort 9500ci. It is invisible to radar detector detectors.

Mine saves my reared almost every day.

Good gracious it's $2k!?!?!?!

I'd have to spend a lot of time on the road for it to save me that kind of money

My wonderful state doesn't seem to mind detectors too much, so I'll stick with the trusty V1 for now

First ticket in 6 events. 57 in a 30, but trooper wrote it for 54 in a 40. Guy was cool about it, not the sterotypical DB with badge on a power-trip. Just north of the "gravel" lot after the group photo. Only reason it was a 30 zone was the repaving work, even though the work was complete where I was popped. No cones, people, equipment; nothing. Oh well. Time to invest in a radar detector.
This. My V1 has saved me many times over its purchase price through the years. Back when I traveled for work, I called it my time machine

Also, FWIW I generally don't go fast at all until I'm past the overlook on my way up. They always seem much more concentrated in that first section.
I had a radar detector... Cop waited until we were in range and popped it on. No time to do anything but get the license and reg ready. I guess since it was 4am, there wasn't anyone within range in front of us for me to pick up on his little trick.
