Honestly I would have thought I would be safer at 4am thinking they would not have been out yet. Sounds like it could've happened to anyone!

First ticket in 6 events. 57 in a 30, but trooper wrote it for 54 in a 40. Guy was cool about it, not the sterotypical DB with badge on a power-trip. Just north of the "gravel" lot after the group photo. Only reason it was a 30 zone was the repaving work, even though the work was complete where I was popped. No cones, people, equipment; nothing. Oh well. Time to invest in a radar detector.
This. My V1 has saved me many times over its purchase price through the years. Back when I traveled for work, I called it my time machine

Also, FWIW I generally don't go fast at all until I'm past the overlook on my way up. They always seem much more concentrated in that first section.

Instant on radar is the nasty one. Not much you can do (and being the only car within 100 miles makes it even easier for them).

two words: night vision

seriously though, nothing you can do in that situation except accept that you've gotten away with plenty, and it's time to pay your dues. kind of a shit way of looking at it, but it does help the bitter pill go down a bit easier, at least for me.

In the Commonwealth of VA, that's criminal reckless driving and can get your car confiscated and your drivers license suspended permanently.

It's the remote display (link). When it's connected, it blanks the detector and duplicates the arrows in a smaller display that you can mount elsewhere. I had mine mounted on the steering column just in front of the speedometer.
Here's the installation guide
.

Just remember that Valentine V1 can be detected by both VG-2 and Spectre radar detector detectors. VA state police are all equipped with Spectre and can either confiscate or copy and record the serial number of your detector and issue you a ticket. That ticket can be expensive.
