I think most of the expectations were based on the previous two stays at Fontana. Last year, I think the biggest shortcoming was that we had to buy (wet) firewood. Both of the cabins I had were clean, fully stocked, devoid of insects, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It seems that a lot of people had similar experiences last year, but this year was a big dropoff.
The wet firewood sucked, but we still managed to improvise

Definitely true on the dropoff in quality this time around.. Hopefully the feedback will be given to the Fontana staff.... I assume we'll be there for DBR again and I plan on booking another room there..... I just hope it improves because if not, WTD '08 organizers should explore another location.

I wish I would have thought of the dryer sooner.

Thats the crappy part. There is no other location, unless you want to be an hour out. I loved the fact that the dragon was right there.

There are other places nearby, just none that can host 150+ people. Actually, there's only a handful of places in Knoxville that can even handle that. We're victims of our own success, in some ways.

I dont think I should have to bring my own food to Fontana. Snacks are fine, but they do have restaurants. Do they not want to make money? You know 5 months in advance you are going to have have 300 overpaid, underworked people show up, hungry, and WILLING to spend their money. Give them something to spend it on.

I hear you...but understand there is a difference in what "should be" and reality. The reality is that if you want to eat well and be satisfied you need to bring your own food if you are staying in a cabin. If that is not the reality you want, then Fontana is not the best place for you to stay. Try Tapoco Lodge or the Hilton in Alcoa. They will likely meet your expecations.

No no...I think you misunderstood what I am saying, and I guess you needed to be at my table to understand. While everyone was registering, myself, and the EJ group decided to go eat. When we sat down, the restaurant was almost empty. Before we got a chance to order, they began to run down a LONG list of what they were out of. That pissed a few of us off due to the fact that, like I said, they KNEW they were coming. Its not difficult to be prepared. They would have made MORE money off of us. I was was managing Fontana, they would have made 10K more off the s2000 crew, believe me.

I am the odd man out on this one. I couldn't ask for a better room. Everything was perfect and the price was great.

As for the generator suggest, I don't believe that that is a viable solution. The power outage was something beyond Fontana's control. You are in the middle of the boon docks and it takes time to fix these things. That is not to say that they shouldn't have flashlights (candle are a bad idea due to the fire risk).

Now the best part, The S2KI people that planned this were great. You did a wonderful job.
